Savagefolk

The complete history of the Savagefolk can be found here: Creation of the Orcs.  In summary, the Elvar created the savagefolk to be their laborers and warriors, by taking other people and twisting them with dark magic.  According to a treaty formed about 350 years ago, the Elvar are not to take any new prisoners and create any new Savagefolk.  All living Savagefolk in existence are descendants of prisoners of war from centuries past.  Whether the Elvar will forever obey the treaty, or whether there are still Savagefolk being created in secret remains to be seen.

Most Savagefolk speak Vorntusk.  This language was created by the Elvar and taught to all Savagefolk that they created, so that the Elvar could continue to speak Sylvan without the Savagefolk being able to understand.

With the exception of Orcs, the Savagefolk species are considered too bestial to be classified on the same level as the other intelligent mortal races, and should not be "playable" in a role-play setting.  However, Orcs and Half-savages should be! The most common type of half-savage has orc blood, but any variant is theoretically possible.

Goblins

Goblins were created from Bantams (Hin, Kender, Gnome). Goblins will eat just about anything, and they are always hungry. They have very fast metabolisms and more energy than they know what to do with.  They are chaotic and seem to have instincts that purposely work against order and collaboration.  A goblin's mother is the only person they will listen to.  Goblins are promiscuous and generally don't know who their fathers are.  Goblins tend to run in either family groups led by a female matriarch, or in bachelor pads of young males who typically rip each other apart, so they don't last long. Goblins don't have the attention span to actually sit down and create something, but they are plenty intelligent enough to use tools that they find or steal.

Trolls

Trolls were originally created from Dwarf, and even moreso than their ancestors, they are beings of stone.  Trolls are 5-6 feet in height and are incredibly dense, weighing around 500 pounds.  They are very slow creatures, seeming to experience the world at a slower pace than everyone else.  They speak more slowly, and walk more slowly.  In fact, trolls can't run.  They also can't swim, since they sink.  A troll that becomes submerged in water will likely drown. Trolls also turn into boulders when exposed to sunlight.  Solitary omnivorous scavengers, trolls tend to aimlessly wander the wilderness, eating whatever they can find.  They are somewhat intelligent, and some have learned to set traps.  So while a troll in the open is generally to slow to be much of a threat unless it gets you cornered, a person who finds themselves in a troll's trap is likely to end up in its stomach. The best way to escape a troll's grasp is to offer it more/better food than yourself!

Gnolls

Gnolls are Savagefolk created from hyena-like Zoa.  They are considered a failed experiment, since they were created around the same time as the Orcs, which were much more successful.  Compared to Orcs, the Gnolls are more difficult to control, less intelligent, and more difficult to feed.

Gnolls resemble big, burly, hyena-like humanoids, generally around 8 feet tall and weighing in around 700 pounds, far larger than their Zoa ancestors.  Gnolls are the least intelligent of the savagefolk species.  They can speak and understand Vorntusk or Zoa if taught, but only very simple sentences.  They are stubborn, violent, and difficult to control.  The females are larger than the males, and the males are desperately sex-craved, which means the males are submissive to females in their desperation for sex.  The males are simpering and whiny and seen as useless beyond female pleasure and sperm production.  A cackle of gnolls generally consists of one female and 2-3 males, along with their offspring; females are driven out when they come of age unless they challenge and defeat their mothers.  Unlike the other Savagefolk species, a Gnoll's diet is more particular and difficult to sustain.  They require large amounts of very protein-dense meat in order to thrive (offspring won't make it to term if the mother doesn't get enough protein throughout their long gestation - 15-20 chickens per day!).  Because of this, despite their ferocity, Gnolls don't do very well in the wild, and formidable as a cackle of gnolls can be, they are rare.

Ogres

Ogres were created from Humans.  The problem with Ogres is that their bodies produce fat deposits readily, but have a more difficult time producing muscle than Orcs.  Their intelligence is similar to that of the Goblins and Trolls, but they are lazy and hedonistic, and thus unmotivated to use that intelligence to do much of anything except reproduce, eat, and pet fuzzy creatures.  They are also cowardly, often under-estimating their strength, and so they are easily driven off if you can manage to hurt them just a little bit, unless they are defending their kin, cornered, or starving.  Ogres mate for life and live in small family groups comprised of 2-3 couples and their offspring.  They are generally the most gentle of all types of Savagefolk.  It's easy to befriend an Ogre by offering it food and shelter, but they quickly become complacent and needy, lying around waiting for their next treat, since they lack the emotional intelligence necessary to really have a two-way friendship.
