MOTHS AND BEATLES
Batman attention is consumed fighting Killer Moth. Who has been funded by Ra's al Ghul to keep Batman busy.
He and his gang The Moths have gotten rich being paid by other gangs to do hits on troublesome cops. They have infiltrated the G.C.P.D. to the point where the department is no longer effective against them - the Dark Knight is the cities only hope of restoring order.
At the same time, and, you assume, partly due to the fact the G.C.P.D. is fearful and on the back foot, a gang war has flared up between Penguins and The Falcone Crime Family who have traditionally been allies - bodies are falling every night as the war intensifies.
Really this war is being orchestrated by Black Mask on the orders of Ra's to bring down / distract the penguin so he can steal his ancestors diary which has information about a bat demon he wants to unleash on Gotham City.
Bruce Wayne charges his wards (the party) with calming the war down. They can achieve this however they wish but the corpses have to stop piling up every dawn.
In this version of earth the Beatles are all still alive and have reformed for a final tour. It has just been announced they will be playing Gotham Arena next month and everyone the players meet is after a ticket. It will become a running joke.Bruce Wayne announces he has got each of the wards a ticket and Alfred who is a super fan from back in the day. They may of course decide to trade in their tickets for favours in the gang war. The concert will feature in the next adventure.
CATS AND STARS
They go out somewhere at night - let the party choose where. After their night out they are returning when they see Selina Kyle as Catwoman is leaping from rooftop to rooftop she looks like she is in a hurry. You get the sense that she is up to no good.
If they follow her they see her make her way to S.T.A.R. Labs and break-in through the roof - if they follow her they see her make her way through the building to a room with a safe. She cracks the safe but there is nothing inside.
If they stop her and question her she will tell them that the experimental serum she came to steal had already been stolen by someone else. She was stealing it for a client - he will be reluctant to reveal who that was but a successful skills check and she will reveal it was Oswald Cobblepot who she got a call from on a number she gave him for contracts. In reality this was Black Mask using a voice modifier to sound like Penguin. She was to leave the stolen goods at a drop off point by the docks.
If they go to the labs - either hack the computer or find another way they will discover that what was stolen was an experimental serum that was being developed for the military - the problem is it did not yet work.
If they talk to Catwoman on site or afterwards she is keen to team up as she doesn't like to be bested and made a fool of.
THE CANARY
The serum that was stolen from S.T.A.R. Labs was stolen by White Canary earlier in the evening. She was also stealing it for the Black Mask but believed she was stealing it for Penguin.
Security footage shows a woman in white and a knowledge check reveals that they are White Canary.
If they go and see the White Canary then they are ambushed by overwhelming force The Ghost Dragons at the last minute Batman crashes through a window to aid them.
If she is defeated the White Canary will - if forced to - tell them it was Penguin who she stole it for - she delivered it to a drop off point and was wired the money.
Penguin will deny all knowledge of this and he is telling the truth - it was Black Mask.
GOTHAM GANG WAR
The truth about the gang war is that is being orchestrated by The Black Masks and it's leader the Black Mask.
The gangs leaders can be found at the Iceberg Lounge (Penguin) and the Roman Villa (Falcone).
Perhaps introduce owl imagery at both addresses but they are in the designs of the houses (which were both designed by Bruce's great grandfather if they investigate). Neither Penguin or Falcone know their true significance. That being that they represent 'the Court of Owls' - the legend his great grandfather who built much of old gotham became obsessed with.
If they investigate with a knowledge check they might think of the old rhyme:
“Beware the Court of Owls, that watches all the time,
ruling Gotham from a shadowy perch, behind granite and lime.
They watch you at your hearth, they watch you in your bed,
speak not a whispered word of them or they'll send the Talon for your head.”
If they investigate the gang war's origins they will find that both Oswald Cobblepot and Carmine Falcone deny making the attacks on one another's gangs or doing the killings.
At first the party think this is just general denial but no amount of successful social checks reveal that they are holding something back - they are telling the truth.
It is at this point that Gotham Gang War makes his first appearance...
BORK HAS A BAD DAY
The first time Bork bursts onto the scene is that the wards get reports of a muscle bound monster terrorising downtown. By the time they get there he is gone but looking at security footage re a computers check or by investigating and talking to witnesses they can discover that:
He burst out of the sewer.
He smashed the door in of the nearest house Bork house - luckily the family that live there - the Borks - were not in.
(In reality Bork is looking to find his wife and young daughter who have been kidnapped by the Black Mask but Bork believes they have been kidnapped by Penguin - he saw Penguin give him the serum and saw him say that he had his wife and kids so he had to do whatever he said - again in reality this was Black Mask wearing a face simulator).
If they wait for the family they never come home - the family are Carl Bork, Janet Bork and daughter Elle Bork. Neighbours say they saw men wearing masks bundling the wife and daughter into a car earlier in the day.
Carl works at the docks - if they check he never turned up for work. He was a big, strong guy - good dock worker - bit of a local legend.
SEAHORSE STAND-OFF
The wards are invited to attend the opening of a new tank at the Spring Street Aquarium that will house three giant seahorse a new species of which was discovered off the coast of Gotham. They will be among the first to see them in their new enclosure.
Both Carmine Falcone and Oswald Cobblepot are in attendance but avoiding each other.
Also at the party is Oliver Queen who says that Bruce said that he should introduce himself. He is from Star City but he is in town for a few days. He says that if they need any help they should call him.
As everyone is leaving, it will look like one of Carmine's goons takes a shot at Oswald but in reality it is one of Black Masks men Anthony Gambi posing as one of his gang.
Both Carmine and Penguin try and escape and will if not stopped immediately after shots are first fired.
The chaos means that the party will need to pass a hard perception check to see who shot first.
If they capture Gambi it will take hard coercion check for him to tell them that he was hired by a group of men in Black Masks.
The seahorses will come up later in the introduction of Aquaman.
The next morning Alfred informs them that it was an experimental serum for the military that was stolen from S.T.A.R. Labs.
CAR CRASH INTERROGATION
If Gambi is taken alive he is held in the interrogation rooms at G.C.P.D. Central. It will be a hard social check to get Gordon to let the party integrate Anthony Gambi or they will have to find another way like a corrupt cop or persuading Harvey Bullock.
If they are successful they will find Gambi chained to a chair a table between them in the classic interrogation set up.
If questioned he will be evasive and on successful checks only refer to the fact that they don't really know what's going on, who the war is between and what it's really about.
Let the interrogation run for a while then - the whole wall is rammed by a truck smashing down the wall and opening up a hole to the street outside. Through the hole they can see that in the truck behind the truck that rammed through the wall on the road outside are four of Penguin’s men (really they are the Black Masks) and in a chauffeur driven car nearby is what looks like Penguin but is really Black Mask using his mask's tech to create a disguise - his goons come in to rescue Gambi and try and take him back to the truck. The fake Penguin will try and escape with or without Gambi if the heroes attack. If they chase him they may see the mask glitch.
THIN ICE
This time Bork attacks the Iceberg Lounge. Three of the Penguins are killed - the place is smashed up.
When the party arrive Bork is on a rampage - smashing things up.
He will run when confronted and only fight if caught on a vs Athletics check.
If he is caught it must become apparent to the party that he has developed some form of invulnerability.
Batgirl enters the scene helping the wards - she suggests they made need to get a sample of Bork's blood to work out what is going on.
When they do and successfully anaylise it with a medical check they find that a large quantity of sinigrin and sinalbin might work - knowledge check to see they are found in the recipe for Big Belly Burger sauce.
They then have to find a way to cover Bork in the sauce when he emerges from the sewers again.
ALL ABOARD
Alfred calls to tell them that Batman is fighting a whole bunch of The Moths who have taken over the S.S. Gotham Queen that is mored at the docks. He needs their help.
When they get there and bored the boat they find that Batman is fighting Anarky on the top floor while they deal with goons on the lower decks.
Some of the goons have a passenger as a hostage. A gun to their heads.
Suddenly, as party fight their way across the lower deck,Copperhead back flips into view. They can see Batman fighting Anarky on the edge of the ships crows nest above.
Harleen Quinzel enters the scene in her new persona as the Hassium Gimp and helps the wards and her lover the Golden Gimp fight.
A successful Vigilance check will reveal that they are moving, the ship has left the docks.
ABANDONED SHIP
They can hear the distant sound of a helicopter.
As they are fighting they see a helicopter circle the ship.
A successful perception check shows that Killer Moth is in the passenger seat.
Killer Moth shoots the boat with a missle and it begins to sink - there is a mad scramble for the lifeboats.
The helicopter flies off.
If they are not yet defeated, realising they have been double crossed by Killer Moth, who they were working for, they also head for the lifeboats.
THE GANG WAR INVESTIGATION
Eventually the party either does a stake out or is called out to watch Penguins men getting attacked by Falcone's men but when they investigate none of the men worked for Falcone.
Falcone appears to be there but escapes - in reality this is the Black Mask in a technologically advanced face camouflage rig.
If they chase Black Mask when they catch up to him he will disguise himself as a wounded Carmine Falcone and tell them the real villain just fled before faking his death - they will then realise it is the Mask in his camouflage rig as he escapes.
When they catch Black Mask they discover his real name is Roman Sionis,. The problem is he is meant to be dead. Buried at the Sionis Crypt. It is now instead the HQ of his outfit and where they are holding the Bork family.
ROLLING NEWS
Vicky Vale announces on the news that the villain known as Killer Moth has taken Captain James Gordon hostage and is holding him for ransom. She also discusses how in Metropolis Superman saved hundreds of people by holding up a derailed train that would have otherwise plunged off a bridge.
BORK MUSTARD MAYHEM
Depending on how long the party need he will attack Cobblepot Manor and then Greytowers Medical Clinic looking in his deranged mind for a cure to his condition. Penguin will truthfully deny all knowledge of what is going on.
The players will have to find a way to lure him into a trap and pour the sauce over him.
