The High Road is an inland trade route connecting Waterdeep to the coastal cities of The Sword Coast North: Neverwinter and Luskan. The High Road was jointly maintained by these major trade centers. At its zenith, the High Road was well maintained with cobblestone paving over most of its length; regular intervals with mile-markers, guard stations and watchtowers; and numerous well-kept inns for travelers. Since the numerous catastrophes of The Time of Troubles and the downfall of both Neverwinter and Luskan, the road has fallen into disrepair. North of Thornhold, the road is extremely unsafe for travelers and much of the amenities have been destroyed.
