The Chasm is the unofficial name of the southwestern district of the city of Neverwinter, where the Arcanist Quarter and Beggar's Nest previously stood. Almost every building in the quadrant was reduced to rubble during The Ruining when a rift opened in the ground in the district's center, creating the district's namesake: The Chasm, a massive canyon-like scar in the face of Toril that opens into the unknown depths of The Underdark. The Chasm seems to be home to an unending number of plague-changed monstrosities that periodically spew from its depths and attack other city districts, hide in ambush in the ruined hellscape district, or attempt to escape the walls surrounding Neverwinter and plague the nearby lands. After residents began resettling in the ruins of Neverwinter, one of their first major reclamation projects was building The Wall to secure Settler's Enclave, now known as The Protector's Enclave, from the threats of The Chasm.
