Blaming, Maiming and Gaming

  • The party collected themselves from their hard fought battle against the chitines and the choldrith
    • Lambchop began to rifle through the belongings of the chitines, taking a few of their web-woven underwears
    • Cora lowered herself slightly into the hole to cut upon some of the bodies plastered to the pit walls, finding a number of weapons and items including a longsword, a halberd, some elven poison, and a strange, oblong wooden box
    • The party investigated a small offering pile set up by the chitines, which Kel assumed to be in worship of a tribal god rather than a more recognizable deity
    • The party cut off some thick webbing covering a serpentine statue at the end of the hall, and Ilryn stuck her hand atop a needle, her blood activating the statue, creating a tangible mirage floor above the pit
    • Lambchop became enticed by the gems in the statue's eyes, prying them off as the statue began to spark and tremble, the mirage covering the pit soon disappearing
    • The group decided to bolt from the room, Mera deciding to stuff an odd cloak of webbing that seemed to speak to her as she left
  • The party made it back to the steel door and knocked for Raldon Tarrod, who came after a bit of an anxious wait, only opening the door for the group once they convinced him the threat was dealt with
    • Raldon asked the party to activate the statue, and the group technically told the truth that they had already done so, neglecting to mention its current state
    • Raldon ushered the group upstairs to wait while he penned his incriminating letter, and the party awkwardly looked around his office
      • Raldon afforded Lambchop one of his quills, which seemed to occupy the half orc for the time being
    • Raldon eventually finished up his letter, immediately sealing it with a strange symbol that appeared to be three radial eyes
    • The group attempted to suss out the contents of the letter, learning that it might implicate someone at the Reedpicker Inn, but were unfamiliar with the nature of the seal
  • The party argued for a bit about the right course of action to take, eventually heading back to Tunban Fetterly to deliver the letter in earnest
    • The group told Tunban they found the letter in a backroom in the inn, and Tunban began to awkwardly open the letter with Mera's dagger and proceed to read it, very slowly
    • Mera began to read the letter over Tunban's shoulder, learning that it was a letter of confession written from the point of view of Nuniel Masselby, working with the Blinded Order in a plot to overthrow the mayor
    • Mera placed an illusion over Nuniel's name to have it appear as "Jinjle Steievee", much to Tunban's confusion
    • Somewhat satisfied and even more nervous, Tunabn gathered 138 gold from a secret chest located behind some books on one of the shelves to give the the party, telling them that they should not speak of this, and that the findings would be perceived as a result of the mayor's personal investigations
  • The party headed back to Cloverhall for some rest, being woken up in the late evening by an inebriated Tamidilly Rideonvattle
    • Meeting the members of the party, Tamidilly harrassed everyone while asking if they wanted to travel to Bucktuck City in order to participate in the Owlspring Festival coming up on the 26th
    • The group responded in the affirmative despite Tamidilly's behavior, eventually making it to bed after the gnome calmed down and passed out

  • The party awoke to the smell of a hearty breakfast being prepared by the housekeeper Rulan Vinesweep
    • Entering the common room, Lambchop was immediately called over by Rorug Fletsworn, who began to refer to Lambchop as his 'brother', granting the two of them the title "Discovery Brothers", continually talking about the Foxmoon Cairn and ruins
    • Mera stole Tamidilly's plate as she lay passed out on the table and Erdo Elfast addressed the party, "thanking" the group for getting his package
    • The group spotted the Iron, an odd, silent individual completely covered in thick, crude, rusting iron plated armor that Rorug introduced as his friend
      • The Iron responded to nothing, simply staring straight forward with an untouched plate of food in front of him
    • As Rulan came out with breakfast for the party, Eliza Millheart came down and took the party aside, congratulating them on their work with the difficult mayor
    • Eliza admitted she might seem overbearing, but justified it as stemming from her devotion to the guild's reputation
    • She discussed the group's next moves, speaking of the wolves in the town of Rostern and the strange sheep killer in the hamlet of Beckley
    • Eliza urged the group to continue setting a good image for themselves, and left the group to their breakfast, dodging questions about her work and imploring the party to contact her when they were ready for their next mission
  • The group pondered their next move, eventually settling on going to the festival in Bucktuck after Erdo informed the party that Tamidilly had already requisitioned a wagon
  • The members spent the rest of their day doing various tasks and resting
    • Lambchop stopped by the Potted Pig, buying a large jug of fine wine
    • Mera set up a room on the second floor of the guild for her pottery, but was unable to grasp proper inspiration for the day
    • Tunban gave a speech from Tummel Tower, rambling about the Blinded Order and imploring the citizenry to come to him with any information regarding the plot against his life

  • The group headed out in the early morning, meeting with Erdo and Tamidilly, hopping in the back of the wagon
  • Tamidilly discussed her god, Durzick, encouraging the group to convert to his worship for a good time
  • Along the way, the wagon stopped after finding a large amount of luggage strewn across the side of the road, with no indication of whose it was and why it was here
    • Cora began to investigate the mess as Lambchop began to loot it, finding a sack of gold
    • Finding signs of a scuffle but no obvious footprints, Cora gave up on her investigation as the rest of the group began sifting through the various items
    • Ilryn discovered some fancy clothes, perhaps belonging to nobility, that she pocketed
    • Cora found a number of books, some of faith related to Fectovarano
      • She took a book on whittling
    • Going through some of the mundane belongings, the group happened upon a chest with a thick, cast-iron frame and an intimidating lock
      • In an attempt to open the chest, Kel poured a strange black liquid into the locking mechanism before asking Erdo to pick it; he proved unable to do so because of all the fucking sticky shit that had magically appeared in the keyhole
      • Lambchop attempted to bash open the lock with his hammer, making a slight dent in the metal
      • Mera decided to carry the box back to the wagon to figure out at a later time
  • The party crossed the Owlknot at Quagley Ferry, making it to the other side before making camp for the night

  • About midday, when crossing between some forested areas, the wagon halted as arrows began to fly across the road
    • Kel, Ilryn and Cora recognized a thick dialect of elven being shouted from the forests, apparently arguing about fruit, alcohol, territory and trade
    • The party chose to wait the conflict out, witnessing the deaths of multiple somewhat tribal elves, some exploding in fire as an alcoholing scent lingered in the air
    • After some hours passed, the victorious side emerged from the forest, carrying large jugs of clear liquid and armfuls of strange, round fruits; the party stepped out of the way as the elves rushed down the road
    • Back on the road, the party picked up 5 of the large jugs of clear liquid left behind by the elves, seeing it shimmer slightly with an uncommon iridescence

Ulkatel 23rd, 989 IaC

  • In the morning, the party passed through a forest road without incident
  • In the late evening, the wagon halted for a strange lady in a tattered white gown standing in the road, walking towards the wagon while weeping with her hands over her face
    • The party exited the wagon and attempted to converse with the woman, but she was unresponsive save for her continual, limping approach
    • Cora used her Divine Sense, finding that the woman was in fact undead
    • The group retreated quickly to the wagon, hightailing it around the woman as she revealed her jawless face with a long, hanging tongue and rows of long, sharp teeth
  • The group had an uneasy rest for the night, but it passed calmly regardless

Ulkatel 24th, 989 IaC

  • The party made it to the Attlerun, following alongside it as they neared the Bucktuck river valley
  • In the evening, the wagon was stopped by a very short man that insisted the party spit out their teeth as he fervently clenched a bloody bag and held a large tooth up above his head
    • The group began to approach him in an effort to calm him down, prompting him to throw a tooth at one of the wagon horses, establishing a large, bleeding bite mark as it struck its flesh
    • Ilryn answered with a crossbow bolt, spiking the man in the head and instantly killing him
    • Kel picked up the strange bag of teeth he held, inspecting it and the wagon got back on track

Ulkatel 25th, 989 IaC

  • Entering the river valley in the morning, the party neared the mountainside city of Bucktuck
  • After a bit of travel, the party came upon a pack of wolves that had cornered a man atop his broken wagon, his horse lying dead beneath it with grey and black-spotted mushrooms strewn across the area
    • Greeting the man, the party engaged the wolves, making quick work of them with minimal injury
    • The man thanked the group as he began to gather his mushrooms, however, the party did as well
    • The group questioned the man about his mushrooms as he refused to answer truthfully, claiming they were not for sale
    • The party then decided to extort the man for his mushrooms, which he could do naught but abide as they collectively took a large number of them
    • The mushroom man ran off down the road with his salvaged product as both Tami and Kel ate some
  • As the wagon neared the city, Kel and Tami began to experience strange visions, seeing ghostly apparitions that appeared to interact with the environment before disappearing like mist
  • Just past noon, the wagon made it to a shanty town just out of the city limits, where the party left the horses in a stable and continued onwards to the city gates
  • The party finally made it to Bucktuck City, entering the town as the guards warned them to keep their weapons sheathed
    • Entering into the mountain city, the party found the residents excitedly preparing for the Owlspring Festival as they applied decorations and set up attractions for the next day's festivities
    • Tamidilly led the party into a random pub, kicking up a celebration with her strange powers as the bar became a frenzied cacophany of music, screams, and fighting
    • The party drank late into the night, eventually blacking out and forgetting much of what they did the night before

Ulkatel 26th, 989 IaC

  • The group woke in up various different states, confused as to how they got there
    • Lambchop woke up with a moist bucket on his head
    • Cora woke up trapped inside a barrel
    • Mera's arms were covered in black paint and cheap jewelry
    • Ilryn was dressed in a number of other people's clothes
    • Kel was halfway suspended off the wall by her feet, her hair filled with a strange, melting but brittle goo
  • Tamidilly awoke from her displaced bathtub and led the group out into the streets to enjoy the festival, with Erdo nowhere in sight
    • The bright sun temporarily blinded the party, but strangely enough they did not feel as bad as they should've for drinking as much as they did
    • Tamidilly was quickly lost in the crowd as she went to go participate in a drinking game
  • The group began to visit the various attractions of the festival, getting food and playing games as the day passed
    • Lambchop bought a full lamb's leg to gnaw on as the party played a rotten fruit tossing game, hitting caricatures of the Kalhastian queen, Arenora Valemoon, and winning a number of strawberries
    • Ilryn, Kel and Cora played a knife-tossing game, enticed by the prize of a mystery bag, but ended up simply getting corn each time they won
    • Wandering into a fortune telling tent, the party "got their fortunes told", namely enticed by the promise of a physical prize given at the end of the fortune afforded by reaching into the crystal
      • Kel recieved a strange black egg, Cora got a small metal box, and Ilryn got a shining rapier
      • As Ilryn pulled the rapier the fortune teller attempted to take it back from her, but she bolted out of the tent
      • Mera still wished to have her fortune read, but the teller refused to do so until his property was returned
    • The party ran from the fortune telling tent, making it to a bread-rolling contest that the entire group entered, Mera emerging the winner and earning a white pet mouse
    • Kel, Ilryn and Lambchop entered the Sledding Contest, Kel breaking her face open on the stone street, Ilryn hitting a lamppost, and Lambchop throwing a man at another man to glide his way into victory
      • For winning the contest, Lambchop won a beautiful helmet crafted by the master smith Ogris Finehand, an enviable prize that the half orc began wearing with pride
      • The helmet was awarded by a tall, intimidating silver knight with a large, flat helmet containing holes remniscent of a hockey mask, and speaking in a tragic voice
    • The party tried out a game made by the wizard Aven Bildar, testing their mental strengths against each other
      • Lambchop wished to challenge Aven to a battle, but quickly gave up after he was informed he would have to take off his helmet to wear one of the magical circlets
      • Cora battled Mera and the sorcerer came out victorious, but then suffered a loss to Aven himself
      • Kel and Ilryn battled next, with Ilryn managing to push Kel consistently to the edge, but Kel's willpower keeping her in the fight until she finally conceded
      • Ilryn then fought Aven and put up a good battle, but eventually lost to the wizard, who encouraged the group to visit his magic shop (Aven Bildar's Curious Delights and Eclectic Finds) if they got the chance
  • The main attractions of the festival began in the evening, with thousands of the citizens running through the city streets with blue streamers to symbolize the joining of the rivers to form the Owlknot
  • An owl show was put on, enticing Cora and Lambchop to both by owls for 30 gold each, complete with a perching gauntlet
  • The party then watched a parade containing a number of local establishments, and most notably a large float carrying the ruler of the Atherdale province Lady Anise Taranil, surrounded by a legion of her silver knights as the crowd met her with fervent cheers
    • As Cora asked a random citizen who the woman was, she learned of the adoration the town had for Lady Anise, and the resentment they hold for the crown
    • A contingent of the Bronze Aegis marched in the parade, prompting boos and jeers from the crowd
    • From behind the party, a bolt of powerful red energy flew past, striking a member of the Bronze Aegis in the face, blowing part of their head off and instantly killing them
    • The party turned to find the culprit, seeing a number of people fleeing the scene
    • The group chose to question a young girl who seemed to take a morbid enjoyment in the sight, claiming the "Bronzies" derserved it
    • The party then chased one of the runners, a woman in a shawl and a red dress, through the alleys into an empty street, where she turned to confront them and warned them not to approach
    • As the party got closer, the silver knights suddenly marched inbetween the woman and the party, warning them to disperse immediately, led by the tall, intimidating knight from the sledding contest
  • The group began to retreat, but not before Mera incited the knights into a frenzy by conjuring her skunk around them, leaving them confused along with a faint, foul odor
  • The party returned to the festival, a bit unnerved by what they had seen, but the scene had already been cleared so that the festivities could continue
