Hail to the King, Baby

July 19, 2020

  • The Peas spoke briefly with Vortek and Yyk Sen, and soon elected to leave the Tomb of Vortek as the ceiling began to crumble around them
  • Opening a door leading out of the tomb, the party began to run as the walls and ceiling fell behind them
    • Tyerjon whipped up a large gust of wind that carried the party past a pair of stone guardians
    • Coming to a hallway full of smashing walls, the party fiddled around a bit in an attempt to jam the gear system powering the trap, eventually culminating with Tyerjon tossing a bomb in the contraption to disable one side
      • The party sidled through the hallway, their backs pressed somewhat by the still-working smasher on the opposite side
    • Faced with a large pit, Vortek attempted to jump across and fell short, caught by Yyk Sen as she spidered across the wall
      • Tyerjon chose to climb across the wall himself as the group jumped into the Roomy Chest, knocked around a bit by the movement
    • Faced with a door sealed by magic, Vortek attempted to punch his way through as Journey deduced a way to disable the runes, opening the door
    • In a ritual room full of cultists freaking out about the destruction of their dungeon, the Tyerjon and Wander rescued a random human on a sacrificial table that introduced himself as Ulian Bowband
    • Running into a room filled with strange and rabid creatures, Phaelnah cast Calm Emotions on half of the animals as Wander attempted to distract them with jerky and the group ran past the rest with their shields up
    • Making it to a maze of walls, Wander sent Matilda to fly above the walls and scope a way out, but became lost trying to remember the correct path
      • As Leadbelly and Seamus busted through one of the walls to get back on the right track, Journey fell after being hit by a falling rock, and her foot was broken (again) by another one
      • Tyerjon went back to rescue Journey, taking a few hit himself in the process, and nearly getting left behind by the rest of the group
    • Running through a snaking tunnel, the group finally escaped the temple, making it to a strange, blue daylight
  • Coming to a camp of cultists, Phaelnah attempted to handle the encounter peacefully with Calm Emotions, but the hot-blooded nature of Vortek proved this solution to be generally ineffective as the group entered combat
    • Rather handily cutting through the cultists, Leadbelly, Tyerjon and Seamus ended up getting cursed by their magic
    • Journey sat out the battle in Razodon's cellar, reviving the Rain Knight and speaking with him a bit
  • After the battle, Ulian properly introduced himself as an adventurer, and informed the group that they were on an island known as the Isle of Twisting, Gnashing Things, and to watch out for the native denizens
  • Following Ulian to the shore of the island, the group fought off an attack by the writhers, resulting in the infection of Seamus and Phaelnah, who began to grow new eyes and toothy maws that babbled incessantly
  • After dispatching a large writher at the shore with Phaelnah letting loose a particularly powerful Nightseeker's Blessing, Phaelnah fell unconscious and began to spit up a vile, dark liquid that drained the life from whatever it touched as the Nightblight attempted to communicate with her
  • Ulian bid the group farewell, suggesting that they head to the Ceon'tir Bastion as he headed for Necreziel himself
    • Seamus recalled that the island the bastion was located on was rumored to be empty and haunted
  • Setting out in a pair of boats, Phaelnah attempted to enter Razodon's Cellar but encountered only strange phenomena, seeing a sea of fire and a creepy, taloned crying man in the doorway.
    • Up above, the strangeness continued, as multiple entities seemed to appear out of nowhere, interacting with the group in strange ways, with many attempting to convince the party to enter the water
    • While passing
  • Traveling through the seas between the islands, the group encountered giant shadows that resembled humanoid corpses in the water
    • In attempting to navigate around the cluster of shadows, one of the boats bumped into one, and it instantly vanished
    • Minutes later, the group noticed a giant, undead head following them at a distance through the water
    • It eventually made it up to the rear boat, attempting to bite the boat to shreds as the party attacked it
    • After a Hideous Laughter from Wander managed to incapacitate it for a time and Tyerjon and Journey managed to slow it for a time with Breathe Fear and Slow, Phaelnah was finally able to banish it with a Dispel Evil and Good.
  • The spells cast over the ocean had strange side effects, making Journey gain weight and Wander spit glitter every time he spoke
  • The group continued to travel for a time, sleeping where they could

  • The group continued to travel through the ocean
  • The boats were eventually caught in a strange and sourceless current, carrying them quicker and quicker through the waters
    • While Leadbelly, Journey, and Phaelnah rested, the others spotted an inverted humanoid figure with glowing red eyes, charred and burnt skin, and his arms spread wide flying towards the boats from the horizon in line with the current
    • Tyerjon quickly took the oars and paddled out of the current as Wander attempted to do the same, but couldn't find the strength
    • As the figure became dangerously close and informed the group that he "was coming" repeatedly, Wander woke up Leadbelly, who effortlessly managed to paddle the boat out of the stream as the figure disappeared into a puff of smoke
  • Encountering various phenomena, the party eventually made it, late at night, to Endyr Island and to the gates of the Ceon'tir Bastion
  • After being questioned at the gate, the guards brought the group in to provide medical attention
    • Phaelnah and Seamus had their hitchhikers removed
    • Leadbelly had his eyes and legs fixed
    • The healers of the keep discerned that Balnar's soul had been warped, and whoever did it would need to undo it
  • The guard of the keep allowed the party to get some rest until the next morning

  • The party was brought to the commander of the keep, Relyan Velowyn
    • Relyan questioned Seamus' emblem on his Dragovanes, learning about his royal lineage
    • She requested that he open a set of doors that could only be opened by one of royal blood
    • Upon opening the door and wearing a crown inside, the members of the Vigilant Dragon knelt and swore fealty to Seamus, recognizing him as their king
  • Seamus discussed kingly matters with Relyan, unsure of what to do in his station
    • Seamus concluded that he would need to wrap up his business with the party before taking up Relyan's suggestion to overthrow the broken government of Sanaris
  • Using the Roomy Chest to travel back to Madrioc, the party set up a giant feast at the Bastion, inviting Cormac McHammerface, the Rain Knight, and Razodon Goswin along with them
    • As Wander's hired bards sang songs of Seamus' heroics and Seamus recounted the tale of how he single-handedly defeated Zahast, the party ate and drank and had a pretty good time
  • When the majority of the group was nice and sauced up, Selathwin made an appearance, reminding them that the Nightseeker was very much still a prominent threat
    • Selathwin informed that party that the Nightseeker was absorbing the power of the ley lines to increase her strength
    • She extended an offer to the party to use the ley line to increase their own power, which they drunkenly accepted
