Seffia Cassalanter

Adopted Daughter of House Cassalanter

Also known as: Seffia the Broken Star, Seffia the Risen Flame

“She was raised in velvet but born of ash. When the lies fell away, she did not collapse. She burned.”
— The Librarian

Seffia Naelryke-Cassalanter is a tiefling cleric of the Order of the Gauntlet, formerly considered a rising star of the noble house that adopted her. Bright, faithful, and marked by her radiant devotion, she was—by all appearances—a beacon of what House Cassalanter wished to present to the world.

But beneath the silken trappings and temple blessings lay a truth more cruel: Seffia was a pawn, her righteousness a shield behind which Ammalia and Victoro Cassalanter concealed their infernal dealings. Her very presence on the battlefield was often used as misdirection, and her achievements lauded not for her own merit but to clean the stains left by her family’s bargains with devils and dragons alike.

It was not until the events of The Grand Game that Seffia discovered the full extent of the Cassalanters’ deceptions—and by then, the damage was done.

Early Life

Seffia was adopted into House Cassalanter as a child, her tiefling heritage carefully spun as a “sign of the family’s magnanimity.” Raised alongside the younger Cassalanter heirs, she believed herself truly beloved. Her natural gift for divine magic and unshakable moral compass made her an ideal candidate for the Order of the Gauntlet, who welcomed her with open arms.

She rose quickly through their ranks, and was hailed in the courts of Waterdeep as a living emblem of redemption, faith, and Cassalanter virtue.

The Grand Game

During the events of the Grand Game, Seffia joined the scramble for the Vault of Golorr, believing she was racing to retrieve a stolen inheritance. In truth, she was walking into her own family’s betrayal.

The vault was breached by the Hype Squad, but its spoils were teleported away by Victoro Cassalanter—an act coordinated in secret with Therlin Heskan of The Unseen. What followed was a chaotic four-way battle between the Unseen, Manshoon’s forces, the Unknown, Jarlaxle Baerne’s agents, and the Hype Squad.

Therlin wielded Blackrazor, one of The Nine Weapons. Seffia witnessed the betrayal of her parents firsthand, essentially dooming her adoptive siblings at the hands of Cassalanter agents. Her identity—once rooted in honor, family, and faith—was shattered.

And in that moment, Seffia chose vengeance over denial. Her divine light flickered, but did not go out. It changed hue. It burned.

The Conclusion of the Grand Game

“They played the Grand Game to its end—
and discovered that the final move was never theirs alone.”

—The Librarian

Seffia Cassalanter’s role in the Grand Game concluded in a night of masks, broken pacts, and unanswered questions. What transpired beneath Waterdeep reshaped the city’s balance of power, scattered its conspirators, and left scars that have yet to heal.

Much remains obscured—by design, by magic, and by those who survived.

“History will name winners and losers.
The truth is less orderly.”

—The Librarian

Closing Remarks

“Seffia is not the first to rise from the ashes of a lie—but she is one of the few to keep her flame alight. She has seen the masks of Waterdeep fall. She has heard the voice of family ring false. And yet she walks forward, wounded but not undone. In this era, we need not gods, nor saints. We need Seffias.”
