The War of the Lion Queens was a civil war in Neria caused by the mysterious death of the young Queen Liona II Scelza. Liona III, the girl's unpopular regent and heir, became Queen but was immediately struck with accusations of having murdered her niece to claim the throne. When an attempt was made on the life of Princess Liona, the new Queen's cousin, many of her vassals rose in revolt to depose her. Open war reigned in Neria for two months until Shahanshah Adrastus II sent summons calling Liona III to court. When Liona III brazenly refused the summons, the Emperor officially declared Princess Liona the rightful Queen of Neria and dispatched forces under the command of Lady Korra Andaghos to defeat Liona III. Liona III was slain in battle, and Princess Liona was crowned Liona IV.
