What is a Job Crystal?
A job crystal is a unique item refined from fragments of possibility. They encode the vast experience acquired during adventures, allowing their owner to switch class and subclass on a whim. When they drop during a quest each member of the party receives one.
Job crystals have a few traits to keep in mind:
- They bind to a character when received and become untradeable.
- Even after death the binding remains. Other characters cannot take your job crystals.
- New job crystals begin at level 3.
Where do I get a Job Crystal?
You start with one level 3 Job Crystal. On your journeys you can pick up more Job Crystals for a specific class or Shards of Possibilities which can be converted into any Job Crystal. If interested, you can see more about Job Crystal Lore here.
How do I use a Job Crystal?
Prior to a quest, you may synchronize with up to two job crystals. They allow you to select your class (or multiclass) from the subclasses each crystal makes available to you. The rules for multiclassing can be found below.
Tracking your Job Crystals
A job crystal list is a chart of the classes you've acquired and their respective crystal's level. The levels are independent of each other at all times. In the example below, it looks like Steve just got a Fighter job crystal!

Base Stats
If your stats aren't optimal for a class a job crystal will empower you with some of its own energy. If the Main Stat for your class is below 15, it will temporarily become 15 while using the job crystal. Homebrew base stats on the next page. The Main Stat increase to 15 happens before you apply racial stat bonuses

Multiclassing
When you synchronize with job crystals simultaneously, you may multiclass your character.
There are a few requirements to consider when doing so.
Multiclasses ignore the PHB prerequisites for multiclassing, you can only use 2 classes, and you must own the job crystals being used.
The highest level job crystal in use limits your maximum level. For example, let's go back and see how Steve's doing, we referenced him earlier under “Tracking Your Job Crystals”.
He has chosen to multiclass his Wizard and Fighter job crystals for a quest. He can choose up to 6 levels from those job crystals because Level 6 is his highest level. So he could make a 5 Wizard & 1 Fighter, 4 Wizard & 2 Fighter or a 3 Wizard & 3 Fighter. He couldn't make a 2 Wizard & 4 Fighter because he doesn't have a level 4 Fighter Crystal. If he chose to use his Wizard and Warlock job crystals, then he'd have a maximum level of 18 because that's the highest of the two.
Job Crystal Progression
When you receive experience from a quest, only one job crystal gains it. That crystal must be eligible to gain experience from that quest, as determined by your level and the job crystal's level. If you are single-classing, your job crystal automatically qualifies and gains the xp - this only gets a little more complicated if you multiclass.
When you multiclass, your job crystal's level must equal or exceed your character level on the quest to be eligible for xp. If you have more than one crystal eligible for experience, you may choose which crystal receives it. Let's illustrate this with an example.
Our friend Steve has taken on a quest as a 2 Fighter & 1 Wizard. Since both crystals (Fighter 3 and Wizard 6) are equal to or higher than his total character level (3), both are eligible to earn experience. He received a bunch of experience and decided to put it all in his Fighter crystal.
If he had chosen to instead go on the quest as a 3 Fighter & 1 Wizard, only his Wizard crystal would be eligible for experience because his total level (4) is higher than his level 3 Fighter crystal (even though he had more levels in Fighter on the quest!). This means the experience from it would have to go to his Wizard crystal.

Switching Jobs
When you switch jobs before a quest, you can change your feats, ASIs, and proficiencies as desired. Remember that each time you switch jobs, your stats return to their base values and you lose any temporary 15s you received. Calculate your hit dice as normal for any classes or multiclasses you switch into.
