At a Glance
NightWatch. A vampire nation carved out of the western half of the shattered TorNav'Roc continent — a dome-protected half-island where immortal vampires serve as the living shield against the devils of the Bleeding Scar.
Description

After the dreadful events of the splitting of TorNav'Roc, the western half of the island was left in despair. It wasn't only the island that got split, but also its previous residents. Many left, travelling in far lands, not wanting to ever look behind, others fled in fear of the devils finding a way to cross over, while few who remained struggled with the new reality of their decimated civilization and the lost of their kingdom. Seeking help from Caldar, none came. Ultimately, they abandoned the island. Some years later, the newest emperor of the Eratus Empire, Arzen, proposed a plan to the nations of Caldar to solve this growing threat. Witnessing how the empire's troops had discovered a mutation of humanoids in Caldar (nation) that the other nations seemed to not like, he proposed to move those mutated humanoids to the west half of the island as their own, in exchange for keeping the devils at bay. These mutated humanoids were vampires. With seemingly endless lifespans, those creatures seemed like the perfect guardians. They were mercilessly being hunted and killed, so the promise of a land of safety from other humanoids was too great to pass on. The leading vampire, who others referred to as the Vampire Lord, accepted the proposal and called to its brethren to move into that island. Part of the deal was Arzen to help the vampire lord erect a dome-barrier above the island to filter the harmful effects of sunlight, in order for vampires to be able to guard against the devils during the day. Slowly but steadily, most vampires followed that movement and relocated to the island, which took the name Nightwatch. A new nation was established, recognized by the nations of Caldar and the Eratus Empire.

Geography

The half-island features few tall mountains in its central area, surrounded by thick forests and several rivers that cross it from north to south. A gulf at the south part forms a natural port that was favored a lot by pirates and often coveted.

Government
  • Ruling Body: The Vampire Lord — the immortal leading vampire who has ruled since the nation's founding. Recently reportedly tired of politics and delegated governing to the Seven Noble Houses.
  • Authority Figures: The Vampire Lord; the Seven Noble Houses.
  • Enforcement: Vampire warriors — nearly impossible to kill, capable of operating day and night under the dome.
  • Law Type: Aristocratic vampire sovereignty; the Seven Noble Houses manage day-to-day governance.
Demographics
  • Major Peoples: Vampires — the dominant and nearly exclusive residents.
  • Minor Peoples: Mixed races of elves and humans that have been turned into vampires make up a high percentage.
  • Social Notes: No non-vampire settlement exists; the island is inhospitable to most humanoids without invitation from the ruling class.
Relations
  • Recognized nation by the Kingdom Alliance of Caldar and the Eratus Empire.
  • Friendly relations reported with Blackden (4th era).
  • The primary purpose of NightWatch is to serve as a living barrier between the Bleeding Scar and the rest of the world.
Local Interests
  • Main Trades: Limited external trade — the island is largely self-sufficient; the southern gulf port occasionally sees pirate traffic.
  • What Locals Care About: Survival, containment of the devil threat, internal power struggles between the Noble Houses.
  • Who Holds the Coin: The Seven Noble Houses control most wealth and resources.
Notable Features
  • A magical dome above the entire island that filters sunlight — allowing vampires to operate during the day.
  • The southern gulf port — a natural harbor long favored by pirates.
  • The only recognized vampire nation in Arda, a political anomaly born of necessity.
Rumors
  • Common: The Vampire Lord is immortal — nothing has ever killed him in centuries of rule.
  • Spicy: The Seven Noble Houses are quietly preparing to take power permanently now that the Vampire Lord has "stepped back."
  • Dark: The dome barrier is weakening. If it fails, the vampires lose their daytime advantage over the devils — and the Bleeding Scar will spread.
