Mist Drake

Lesser Dragon

Mist Drakes, descendants of the once noble Aether Drake, are beings of mystery and danger, banished to the Faewyld by the god of life, Unknown himself. These creatures were considered an affront to the purity of their original creation and a looming threat to the future of the Vanir, as they were the only beings still aware of the shrouded existence of the island haven of Aerenal and its sacred Etherstone.

Mist Drakes are strikingly beautiful yet terrifying creatures, possessing scales that range from a soft blue to a pearly white, with metallic spots that darken to a ghostly grey as they age. Their eyes reflect the colors of the ocean—greens and blues—set with silver pupils that expand with time until their eyes are almost completely silver, giving them a haunting, otherworldly gaze.

A defining feature of the Mist Drakes is the fin that runs along the length of their spine, from the top of their head down to the tip of their flattened tail. Their heads taper into a sharp, arrow-like snout, supported by a thick, muscular neck. Over their eyes lay heavy ridges, enhancing their intimidating appearance, while two long horns extend from the back of their skull, with smaller horn clusters at the base of their upper jaw, giving them an appearance reminiscent of the primal forces of nature.

The Mist Drakes are renowned for their hunting prowess. These dragons use the natural veil of mist that surrounds them to ambush their prey, striking from the shadows with lethal precision. Their breath weapon is a swirling mist imbued with the power to disorient and suffocate those caught within it, making them an apex predator of the Faewyld.

The Mist Drakes' ability to manipulate mist and fog is not merely an offensive tool but also a means of defense. They can shroud entire areas in dense fog, making it nearly impossible for foes to see or escape, leaving them vulnerable to the drakes' relentless assaults.

In the Faewyld, Mist Drakes are both feared and revered. Their presence is a constant reminder of the dangerous beauty of the plane, and they are known to hunt all manner of Fae creatures that inhabit the mystical forests and groves. The drakes are solitary by nature, preferring to keep their own company as they stalk through the mists of their chosen territories.

Their banishment to the Faewyld has only intensified their malevolence, as they harbor an ancient resentment towards Mystera and the Vanir. This bitterness has twisted their once noble nature into something more sinister, making them formidable foes to any who dare cross their path.

Perhaps the most dangerous aspect of the Mist Drakes is their knowledge of Aerenal’s existence and its location as the site of the Etherstone. This knowledge makes them a unique threat, as they are among the few beings capable of revealing the island’s hidden secrets. For this reason, Mystera deemed them too dangerous to remain within the material plane and cast them into the Faewyld, hoping that the ethereal plane's isolation would keep the Vanir's most sacred secrets safe.

Even in exile, the Mist Drakes continue to be a potent force within the Faewyld, embodying the destructive power of nature and the relentless pursuit of vengeance against those who wronged them. Their legacy as Aether Drakes, though tarnished, remains a powerful reminder of their once-glorious past and the perilous future they threaten to bring upon the world should they ever escape their exile.
