When the early settlers arrived in the area now Seregon, the Greycaps lived peacefully on the land. Through a series of misunderstandings, the leader of the exploration party, Captain Sereg Kerkhof attacked and destroyed The Greycaps. Following this event, known as The Greycap Massacre, the settlers built their city, when one day, after a foray chasing pirates, the captain returned to find every man, woman and child missing. This is known as The Time of Sadness.
The missing people were believed to have been abducted and killed by The Greycaps. They never returned. The pain of this event lasted generations, yet the city continued to grow and peace was eventually established with The Greycaps.
A missing journal from a junior officer of Captain Kerkhof is believed to tell of the time the settlers spent underground. They were believed to be corralled together by The Greycaps, and as each group sought to escape, they met grisly ends of various sorts, but not at the hands of the Myconid. See The Marcelis Journal.
Afterwards, the survivors above mourned their missing families, often leaving their homes exactly as they were left. It took many years and the arrival of new settlers before this wound could heal.
