Murkmire Marshlands

The Murkmire Marshlands were a large, swamp-like region in the Fencrest Foothills, where freshwater rivers met saltwater wetland. The marshland, located south of the hills of Cliffsunder past Alabaster Bay, occupied the peninsula at the west edge of Commona which separated the Bay of Broken Tides from the Splitmaw Strait. Bordered on three sides to open ocean winds, unique geologic conditions in its salty inner bogs created unique preservative properties.

The place was of great interest to both archeologists and those studying occult lore, as many remnants from the Pre-Unified Age turned up preserved in its swampsMany books were written by Cliffsunder academics on the area, as such treasures as the Murkmire Stone indicated that it was home to more secrets than it seemed. The greatest of these secrets was the Undermire, a series of tunnels below the Marshlands that were extremely dangerous, but housed vestiges of the Age of Giants.

Efforts to uncover these secrets were often repelled by the small colonies of Elven rangers, Firbolg stewards, and Lizardfolk colonies in the mire, who sought to preserve its history from the Human invaders.
