Oregrove was a unique place in the Emberpeak Mountains, a range that otherwise consisted of fire and ash. Located in the crater of the tip of a volcano, Oregrove was an oasis of rainwater pools, flora, fauna, and gorgeous volcanic rock. Despite its location near a Leyline to the Realm of Fire, Oregrove was protected from eruptions by surrounding mountains due to an ancient, unknown fire spirit that protected the caldera.
A colony of formerly-enslaved Giantborn fled to the area after the collapse of the North Mines, and after some time, they began to mine the crater's rock. This activity awakened the spirit of the volcano inside, who Cursed the goliaths for continuing the trade that enslaved them. Those who were able to flee from the fire spirit's wrath slowly turned to the same stone that made up the crater of Oregrove, and became known as the "Doomgolems"; the youngest of the tribe, Jarmo Maulgrave, was the only survivor. The bodies of the petrified giantborn remained as untouched features atop the caldera.
