Lugdana was a paladin who defended the Zarovich Valley from Vampires long before it became the domain of Strahd von Zarovich. Her great deeds made her a hero of the valley, and a favorite of the Morninglord whom she devoted her life to. When she finally passed of old age, her deeds were so great that even the dirt that her bones were buried in underwent Consecration. She became known as "Saint Andral" in public consciousness.
The citizens of Vallaki built a place of worship around this place, christening it as Saint Andral's Church, and her bones were stored under the altar via a secret opening. Hundreds of years later, the Saint Andral's Orphanage was opened in her name.
Lugdana was able to perform such deeds because she wore the Holy Symbol of Ravenkind. According to legend, it was delivered to her by a giant Raven, or an Angel in the form of a giant raven. Lugdana used the holy symbol to root out and destroy nests of vampires until her death. The high priests of Castle Ravenloft kept and wore the holy symbol after Lugdana's passing, until the amulet was lost at some point after the Wedding That Never Was.
