In Curse Of Strahd, Strahd met with the adventurer Atlas Atruvian and told him the story of Marina and Berez; later, Atlas would witness this event through the Tome of Strahd. The Ghost of her father met with Pack when they adventured near her family home, pointing perpetually to Marina's monument in their cemetery. They produced a Blinsky Toys reproduction of Ireena to see if it would help Zann, but this only tormented him further, and he disappeared.
A striking young woman with auburn hair, Marina Ulrich grew up in Berez, the adopted daughter of the Burgomaster Zann Ulrich. Her adoptive father was miserly and strict, and Marina yearned for excitement. However, she was forbidden to leave the village, which ultimately furthered her desire to rebel.
Strahd von Zarovich, as his alias Vasili von Holtz, ocassionally stopped by Berez to purchase family treasures from Zann. He successfully began to woo Marina, after he had discovered that she was a reincarnation of his beloved Tatyana Federovna. Made aware of this, Zann staked Marina through the heart before she could fully transform into Strahd's thrall as a Vampire Spawn, then buried her in Berez's graveyard.
He then confronted Strahd, and overcome by disgust and horror, attempted to stake the Vampire lord in the same manner. Instead, however, Strahd murdered the man, and in rage, caused the Luna River to swell in the Flooding Of Berez. The fates around Strahd twisted and kept the souls in Barovia trapped, doomed to eternal repetition. Tatyana's incarnations, such as Marina and Ireena Kolyana, tormented Strahd to no end; no matter what tactic he used, she would never fall in love with him.
