The Barring Gate was a colossal fortification built to guard a forested canyon at the edge of the northwestern Wealdshield, ending in Fort Creechling. Rising twenty floors high and filled with hundreds of chambers, it served as both a defensive wall and a military hub for the soldiers stationed at Fort Creechling. Its lower levels bristled with arrow slits, spikes, and rows of ballistae designed to deter conventional armies, while the upper battlements supported trebuchets capable of targeting larger threats. The Gate stood as a bulwark that gave its garrison confidence that no foe could pass into the fertile plains beyond.

The Barring Gate’s most fearsome weapons were its six specialized Oaken Bolters, each of which were far larger than a typical Construct of similar kind and laced with powerful magic by Artificer Gnomes at the Fort. These overclocked siege engines were blessed with Evocation spells that that automatically targeted enemies and struck with devastating force. Each was capable of firing multiple times before requiring magical recharge, and skilled spellcasters could even channel their own power through them for greater effect.

While designed to withstand threats such as Giants and Monstrosities from the mountains, the Barring Gate was also a self-contained community, housing soldiers, officers, and supplies within its massive structure.
