Umlian Church

Destroyed

The Umlian Church stood at the far edge of Umli, built of dark timber and grey stone drawn from the Woods of Elenmyr. Its steep roof sagged under age and damp, and iron spikes lined the ridges like a crown of thorns. A narrow bell tower rose above the nave, its windows hollow and unlit. The trees of the forest crowded close to its yard, their branches clawing at the eaves, while a scatter of old grave markers leaned in the wet earth.

The church had been dedicated to Asanye, the Waking Eye, a god of gentle light and renewal worshipped widely by Smallfolk across Somnum. As Asanye represented the passage from night into dawn, the faith had offered reassurance to loggers who entered the dark woods before first light and returned after dusk, trusting that even the longest night would yield. This would not, however, prove true for its residents after the Raids Of Umli.

After the village was abandoned, the church fell into disuse and became a temporary refuge for passing bandits, who rarely lingered long in the haunted quiet of the clearing. Years later, the gold Dragonborn Spellcaster Vermhaxaandes Sharhydrox took interest in the site. He cleared the nave, repaired the interior, and made the old sanctuary his base of operations. From there he trained a band of street-taken adventurers from Oldoan known as the Vermin, reshaping the forgotten church into a place of potential.
