We endure.

Ynis-Gwysrin, a Cawr name that had lost its translation and has been rediscovered to mean Isle of Glass, is a large settlement in the center of the Bulthron Delta. This settlement is built on an artificial island situated in the south end of Brenn Logh, a lake formed by a nexus of passing water ways. Brenn Lough is given to freezing in the winter season, but outside of that is the center of trade for the many people seeking the various natural resources accumulated by the Fwoarian people. Its large wooden walls and dark towers are a welcome sight to weary travelers braving the Delta and the surrounding moors. The homes inside are made of stone like those of Manannan Port but lack the relative sophistication and are scaled a bit larger to accommodate their half-giant tenants.

Government

Government

Tribal monarchy with the First of the Fwoarian Unknown overseeing many of the city's development, defense and economic plans.

Demographics

The lodges of Ynis-Gwysrin cover an area of approximately132 acres, over a series of homesteads, with a total population of 8,000 people. The lodge has 1 Unknown. The peace is kept by 71 warriors on average per lodge and can summon to its defense 213 warriors.

Mostly Fwoarians, many of whom are themselves transient. Only the First of the Fwoarian tribes typically dwells indefinitely here. However, Fwoarians coming from across the Bulthron, down from the Low Muck, or across Tailté na Gréine mingle here waiting on Carachs coming from across the wider Inis to deliver trade goods in exchange for pelts, herbs and select lumber. As such, the population is predominately Fwoarian, but almost any of the tribes can be found here save for Dustlings and Huldufolk. The former of whom send boggarts, which the Fwoarians find slightly more agreeable, if they absolutely have to trade with Ynis-Gwysrin.

Industry & Trade

The delta has access to almost all the of water-ways on the Inis and direct access to the Crescent Bay. Likewise the city brings in tithes and fealty to the Fwoarian tribes with fertile farmlands in Tailté na Gréine. Brenn Logh also provides ample fishing to the inhabitants of Ynis-Gwysrin and the surrounding homesteads. The city also retains large wooden walled buildings, hide and leather mills and a walled harbor that allows safe trading.

Districts

Districts

Ynis-Gwysrith sits upon an artificial isle totaling some 135 square acres large.

  • Carachlinn Setaside - A place where taverns and inns are set aside for visitors to the settlement.
  • Draoi Lia Moot - Nearby the chieftain's longhouse and is where many of the city's Draoi Lia spend their time performing rituals to appease the ancestral chieftains and bring prosperity to the Fwoarian tribes. For a small price many can have their fortunes read, their ancestral stories retold or simple come and few the carven wood ideals of ancestors come and gone.
  • House of the First - The home of the First of the Fwoarian Chieftain is an immense wooden longhouse replete with interior coal pits, feasting tables and an immense dais for the incumbent Chieftain to recline himself amongst his wives. Though entry is usually appointment based, one can walk by an marvel at the myriad of mythological beasts, ancestral guardians and totemic spirits carved into the Longhouse's almost every square inch.
  • Scathac Temple-Tower - A three story tower constructed at the request of the caern-rath's greatest warriors. Inside are gauntlets, training pits, meditation areas, sleeping place and general means by which the warrior caste of women within Ynis-Gwysrin train and learn from one another. Something of a place of pilgrimage for younger Scathac and a place of retirement for the elders.
  • Smallhomes - Where the general population is housed.
  • Staraí Moot - An area set aside at the southern edge of Ynis-Gwysrin where traveling Staraí gather to exchange stories and legends, both ancient and new, with one another. Long nights with the city gathered around great fires are a common occurrence almost every night as the bardic people of the Fwoarians tell the stories of their ancestors and heroes to eager, drunken ears.
  • Storehomes - Where trade and manufactured goods, food and general supplies are stored.

Outside the city's sole land-facing gate there is a large swath of area clear cut with man platforms made of concentric rings of red and yellow stone. Here is where the Fwoarian children of the First do battle with each other and Spriggans in order to prove their right to adulthood. Torches posted in the ground light the area and in these days of prosperity there always seems to be a few trials underway. This is also the default area for duels among the adults.

Geography

The Bulthron Delta around the city is largely inhospitable. Insects, beasts and disease are not the only things travelers must be concerned with. Large areas are mired and can trap the unwary with sudden and seemingly random flooding washing away camps in a matter of moments.

History

No one is sure when Ynis-Gwysrith was originally constructed, though some speculate it to have been before the Age of Spring in that liminal time known as the Endless Winter by the ovates and the Unrecorded Eon by the scholars. Assuming this is true, the entirety of the Inis was said to be covered in ice and snow, where spirits of the air and darkness conspired with the cruel fey to torment the land and any who tread it.

This would make Ynis-Gwysrith the most secure place on the Inis during those dark eons, a literal bastion in the lonely night. Its difficult to believe that a place could survive untouched during such an era, let alone a city, but if one tribe were capable of it many agree it would be the fwoarians. A dire people who seem naturally resilient to fey magics and the harsh colds of winter.

The rest of the city's more modern history is better recorded, albeit from outside and biased sources. During the Battle of Mel Hagga in early AoSm 2200, a misnomer considering it catalyzed a war, the city of Ynis-Gwysrin was the main stronghold and bastion of the Fwoarian people from which the tribes sortied out to battle the Ardruids and their kin. It is, also, where they fled when they were broken after the second battle at Mel Hagga.

While this is often seen as a tragic loss of honor and a brutal blow to the half-giants' pride, in the end it only caused Ynis-Gwysrin to grow. Originally the tribes were small, collectively reaching a population in Ynis-Gwysrin, and the immediate surrounding delta, of only ten thousand or so. With land grants and treaty respirations giving them the Delta and Low Muck, the tribes surged in number.

Sometime in AoA 2600 there was an altercation between Manannan Port and the tribes of the Fwoarian people. A long stint of the human tribes trying to force poor trade deals on the Fwoarian tribes and the pillaging of the Doan Toor wood eventually led to a war with the people of Ynis-Gwysrin . This was a war that Manannan Port  could not support as the rest of the country was in the grip of the most bloody conflict in its recorded history: the War of Spears. Unable to commit armies to removing the Fwoarians from Doan Toor and Tailté na Gréine, the governance of Manannan Port was forced to abdicate the land to Ynis-Gwysrith, in whose stewardship it remains today.
