Tethyrians are humans who make up the major ethnic group of The Sword Coast from Tethyr and Amn in the south to Waterdeep in the north. Of all the human ethnic groups, Tethyrians show the most variety and diversity in their physical characteristics owing to their history of interbreeding between many cultural groups. Tethyrians are descendants of ancient Chondathan immigrants who came to the region and intermingled with Calishite, Northlander, Netherese, and Illuskan groups living there. Many Tethyrians also have elven, dwarven, and halfling ancestors. Tethyrians are of medium build and height, and their hair and eye color vary widely. They are also a highly cosmopolitan people, interacting and cooperating with many non-human species.
