The dwarf planet Ceres is the largest object in the asteroid belt between Maerth and Jupiter, stands today as a cornerstone of The Lunarian Hegemony’s territories within Soul’s outer reaches. Once an isolated mining colony governed by corporate interests, it has since transformed into a fortified and culturally significant asset of Luna. Following the Indigo Revolution, Ceres became not only a symbol of Lunarian unity and militarily might also a strategic staging ground, securing Luna’s recognition as a sovreign state and its influence across the asteroid belt.

History

Pre-Lunarian Era:

In the centuries before Luna’s unification, Ceres was the crown jewel of Ceres Prospectors United (CPU), a powerful megacorporation that exploited the asteroid belt’s mineral wealth. The CPU’s monopoly allowed it to operate largely independently of both Maerthian and Terran oversight, creating a network of heavily automated mines and refineries.

Ceres developed into a sprawling network of pressurized habitats and domes, housing a transient workforce drawn from Luna, Mars, and the still habitable Earth. Over time, Ceres’ independence bred a culture of self-reliance, though economic disparity between corporate managers and laborers remained stark.

The Indigo Revolution:

Ceres' fate shifted dramatically in the century after the Great Intersolar War during the Indigo Revolution, a conflict sparked by rumors of an ancient Vault hidden within the remnants of the now destroyed Earth, an artifact believed to contain the last remnants of Earth's lost treasures. This vault, a supposed relic of pre-war Earth, became the catalyst for interstellar factions to converge on the Gravein a frenzied scramble.

When a fleet from CPU stumbled upon the Vault, they swiftly sought to claim its contents in a effort to gain the resources to rebuild its losses caused by the Intersolar war. However, this discovery attracted the wrath of Luna’s newly unified factions , led by their indigo-clad revolutionaries. In an unprecedented show of force and unity, the Lunarian armada blockaded the Grave, followed by a decisive strike against the CPU’s forces. After a short but intense campaign, Ceres was annexed into Lunarian territory by the help of the Megacorps disgruntled former workers , marking the first major expansion of Luna’s reach beyond its immediate orbit.

The capture of Ceres provided Luna with not only vast industrial capabilities but also control over key shipping lanes and strategic points within the belt. It became the launch point for Luna’s consolidation of nearby asteroids and resource hubs, securing dominance over Soul’s outer system.
