The Grieving Tower is one of the lesser towers of the Golden Palace. It is named for Shahanshah-consort Cecilia Scelza, who was imprisoned in the tower. After the murder of her beloved son, Shahanshah Sethon I, by her daughter, Shahanshah Abba I, Cecilia went mad with grief. Unable or unwilling to murder her own mother, Abba imprisoned Cecilia in the tower, where she remained for the remainder of Abba's War. After Abba's overthrow, Cecilia's madness did not abate, and so Adrastus II elected to keep her consigned to the tower for her own safety, with a small army of servants and priests to attend to her needs. She remained in the tower until she died. Cecilia Scelza's long melancholic residency in the tower led it to become known as the Grieving Tower.
