Vjera Marchenko

Vjera was born and raised in Baldur's Gate and from a young age desired to help the people of the city against the criminals and evils in and around the city. For far too long, Baldur's Gate had a history of double-dealing people in power, tricks and backstabbing in deals, and generally just many, many people that were more concerned with what they could weasel out of other people. As soon as she was able, she joined the Flaming Fist Mercenaries and operated as an additional guard force in and around the city for she did not trust the guard of the city itself to be free of the corruption. All the while, her parents begged her to not get involved, that she would only get herself into trouble over it.

Despite the warnings, Vjera could not just let things be. She could live with enduring whatever troubles fell upon her if it meant protecting others. Her parents did not seem to be able to understand this part of it. Nevertheless, she did her best as a soldier and a guard to the people.

As she strove to find answers, there were many troubles along the way. Finding who was behind the corruption was hidden as many leads led to the wrong people and was clearly an intended discovery, in order to divert attention from the real culprits. How many were behind it all was never a clear answer but eventually, she would find the correct trail to at least one person.

Oleg Petrovich, one of Vjera's squadmates within the Flaming Fist, eventually dug up information about a man named Eustace Iremel, reported to be a member of the Parliament of Peers that was heavily active in helping the less fortunate in Baldur's Gate, was actually a man with connections to the Guild. Despite openly spoken of and acclaimed support of the poor of Baldur's Gate and rapport of being a man of virtue, Vjera was able to dig up some information, despite all the minions and front companies used to hide his guilt, painting him in a less than virtuous light. As she continued to dig, Eustace hired killers to stop her, but no matter how many killers were sent she and her Flaming Fist friends were able to fight them off. With assassination not working, Eustace them doctored the paper trail of his crimes to instead incriminate Vjera instead. With this turn, her execution was called for among the Peers and she was forced to leave the Flaming Fist and flee Baldur's Gate.
