Elendril Aefir

Captain of the Elden Guard
NPC

Elendril Aefir, former head of House Aefir and husband to Alana Aefir, was a striking Vanir known for his noble bearing and unyielding sense of duty. As a battle mage and captain of the Elden Guard in Aerenal, he upheld the values of his house with unwavering resolve, blending martial prowess with arcane mastery. His life, however, was marked by tragedy, sacrifice, and a fateful encounter with the supernatural forces of The Silver Veil Sea.

Appearance and Bearing

Elendril was a figure of commanding presence. Fair-skinned with flowing blonde hair, he was often seen in traditional Vanir full plate armor adorned with intricate gold and silver inlays that reflected the resplendence of Noble House Aefir. His armor bore the sigil of the house—a crescent moon with a rising spire—symbolizing his role as both protector and leader.

Role in Aerenal

As a renowned battle mage, Elendril dedicated much of his life to the defense of Aerenal. His dual expertise in combat and arcane magic earned him the position of captain of the guard, a title he held for many years. Elendril was a paragon of Vanir discipline, using his abilities to protect the island's sacred grounds, including the Etherstone and The Elden Hall.

Despite his martial demeanor, Elendril was deeply devoted to his family. His love for Alana and his children, including Tyrael Aefir and Elora Aefir, defined much of his personal life. He took great pride in their accomplishments and sought to guide them through the trials and tribulations of their noble lineage.

The Silver Veil Expedition

Elendril's life took a tragic turn when rumors reached Aerenal of his son Tyrael’s survival after his presumed demise. Desperate to reunite with his lost kin, Elendril defied caution and embarked on a solo voyage across the treacherous Silver Veil Sea. His journey, however, led him into the clutches of the Ghastly Crew of The Valorant—a cursed ghost ship captained by the revenant Captain Ulric.

Bound by the ship's curse, Elendril was enslaved alongside countless tormented souls, forced to serve under Ulric’s cruel command. His strength and determination kept him alive, but the years aboard the Valorant took their toll, wearing down his once-unshakable resolve.

Rescue and Redemption

Elendril’s salvation came at the hands of Guy the Grateful, who tracked the Valorant across the Silver Veil Sea. Determined to free the tormented spirit of Elendril and the enslaved souls aboard, Guy confronted Captain Ulric in a fierce and harrowing battle. Wielding the strength of his divine bond with Zirael (aka Goldbrand), the Golden Dragon, Guy slew Ulric and shattered the curse that bound the ship.

Freed from his torment, Elendril's soul was finally afforded peace, though he could not return to his beloved Alana after all... He carried the weight of the souls he had seen lost and the years he had spent enslaved, but his gratitude toward Guy and his renewed connection to his family rekindled his spirit.

Legacy

Elendril Aefir is remembered as a symbol of courage, sacrifice, and the enduring bond of family. His story serves as a testament to the resilience of the Vanir spirit and the lengths one will go to for those they love. Though his life was marked by tragedy, Elendril’s legacy endures through the strength of his family and the lessons he imparted to his children. His armor and the remnants of the Valorant now stand as relics within the halls of House Aefir, a reminder of his unwavering dedication and the trials he overcame.
