At the southeastern edge of the Crowncrest Mountains, just before the Sea of Clouds, was a skeleton of humungous scope. A Giant had been long ago skewered into the mountainside by the a massive sword, its remains preserved by the cold mountain air. Just below the base of the giant's pelvis was one of the few documented entrances to the Underdark, where multiple tunnels split off in different directions to the Upperdark.

The tale of how the giant was struck down remains lost to history; given the size of the blade, it was believed to have been killed by one of its kin. This likely history did not stopped local Dwarf mountaineers from considering it a place of sacred pride, however. The dwarves dubbed the landmark "Giantsbane," and was hailed as a symbol of the smallfolk's victories in driving the giants from the western Head of the Greatwyrm.

Due to its proximity to both the Underdark and the Sea of Clouds, considered two of the most dangerous places in the known world, Giantsbane received few visitors or tourists.
