In Curse Of Strahd, when Shakti informed her mother of a strange experience deep in the Sea of Trees, Ylyana performed another divination. She sent her away with a guard in Jarmo Maulgrave, who was mentioned in the augury; however, she forbade her son from joining, fearing losing both of her children. She was not aware that Ghalwin defied her express orders and joined them on the mission until later getting a note from Cormac Orcharder, causing her and Arbor to scramble at the disappearance of both their children.
Ylyana had lived for hundreds of years in the Astralwood Enclave, and Archdruid of Dreams with an ever-changing lifestyle and personality. As a druid of the land, her whims were often dictated by season, and much of her life was dedicated to augury. She often left the Astralwood to divine future truths from the Lake of Telyth, forcing her lovers, children, and students to view the lakes waters as often as possible. When attempting prophecy at home, she used a massive cauldron in her room, located inside the highest branch in the tallest tree of the wood. She slept in a nest of pillows and brambles, and when not divining, spent her days making potions and remedies.
Ylyana was the oldest Speaker of the Forest in the Enclave, lending her opinion a great deal of authority, but she did not often follow up on ideas or keep concrete plans. Her relationships and plans changed day-to-day, and she took many partners, though her closeness with them waxed and waned like the moon. She sired children with Jaghr of the Longtooth and Arbor Forrester, Shakti of the Wildhunt and Ghalwin Forrester respectively, and was uncaring of the eventual strife caused by this, but loved her children deeply.
Her premonitions saved the Astralwood Enclave numerous times, and so she spoke with authority whenever her auguries indicated a threat to her people. However, after Arbor and Jaghr fought in the Vanishing Grove, resulting in the latter's disappearance, she grew less reliable as a community leader, and grew less connected with reality.
