In Search For The Silver Dragon, her body was found by Tobias Villie Broadnose Cogsmith and his friends. The Unknown artificer figured out the code to unlock her magic chest, and took her armor.
A Dark Gnome native to the Deepways, Irsel grew up in tunnels below the southern Crowncrest Mountains. Her small clan roamed around the ever-changing but dangerous Upperways rocks around the Lanke de'Ussvelusscal, seeking to find rare minerals created by the acid mixtures and hiding from the myriad threats of the region. Never particularly interested in mining as many of her people were, she often left the mining colonies to explore the vast and dangerous Underdark alone. Miraculously, she survived this youth, developing intensive skills as a ranger and as a navigator. This allowed her to better to protect the deep gnomes when they went out to mine, and she was named a troop leader for her navigation skills.
This changed when she encountered a Drider colony at the northern edge of the Lake of Acid, who poured out the tunnels and slaughtered her troop with a surprise attack. The driders had been attracted by noise coming from a squad of nearby knights, who had been attempting to construct a door to the outside world. The remaining few members of the Order of the Silver Dragon's squad included Captain Vladimir Horngaard, who desperately defended themselves against this unknown foe. Before the driders could finish the paladins off, Irself assisted them in combat, shouting instructions on the weaknesses of their foes as she shot them with arrows. They managed to kill the driders, and having saved his life, Captian Vladimir became fast friends with Irsel.
He introduced her to the leader of the Order, Argynvost, who visited them once the door had been constructed. The Silver Dragon recognized Irsel's skills and bravery, as well as the Order's need for a local's insight; the knights had begun occupying the Silver Dragon's Hideout as a new base, but were unfamiliar with their environment. Irsel was named First Ranger, a position that filled her with pride. With a heavy heart, she abandoned her people for a more noble cause, as other members of the Order had. As a reward for her deeds, Argynvost gifted her a set of Dragon Scale Mail made from his own scales, a treasure she kept in a magically-locked chest only accessible via candleflame.
When the Order disappeared to construct Argynvostholt, both Captain Vladimir and his steward Godfrey Gwilym left alongside Argynvost. They annointed Irsel in charge of the Hideout despite her lack of standing or experience, which she detailed in First Ranger Irsel's Journal. Left with a sparse retinue, they were killed in their rooms by a surprise attack; the Teleportation Circle leading to the Zarovich Valley had been overtaken by the enemy.
Irsel awoke to a slaughter, and she was beaten to death in her bedroom by those bearing the Mark of Strahd.
