Ochre Glow

This location is destroyed.

Ochre Glow was a small colony tucked away in the northern fringe of the Mycowood, where the spore-mist thinned and the great stalks gave way to the Reaching Grove beyond. It was marked by tall, bioluminescent mushrooms that shed a soft orange radiance through the perpetual gloom, earning the colony its name. These lights were carefully tended by the Myconids, who believed they carried fragments of memory from past generations. At night, the colony glowed like a lantern, visible even from the borders of the Grove.

The colony was arranged in shallow hollows around the bases of the glowing stalks, with shelters carved into their spongy roots and wide mats of fungus serving as gathering places. Unlike the deep dream-communities in the Mycowood’s heart, Ochre Glow had more frequent contact with outsiders, though few travelers still sought refuge there before venturing deeper into the mist. Its Myconid Sovereign presided over a modest community that valued openness, allowing voices from beyond the Mycowood to shape their dreams alongside the spores of their kin.

For a time, Ochre Glow was seen as the friendliest threshold to the forest. This ended when a massive force of Vegepygmy descended on the colony with unknown intent. The Myconids resisted but were quickly overrun, and their glowing stalks were hacked down or set aflame, leaving the forest edge shrouded in smoke and darkness. Few survived the slaughter, and their spores carried news of the fall into the mycelium network. In that moment, all colonies across the Mycowood became aware of Ochre Glow’s destruction, but bound to One Who Remembers's will, none acted in haste.
