Saint Alizandra Markovia's thighbone was a sacred relic and weapon imbued with the same holy power as a Mace of Disruption. It radiated divine energy capable of annihilating Undead and inflicting terrible wounds upon Vampires. When used against a vampire or its Vampire Spawn, the relic’s sanctified power burned so fiercely that it destroyed itself after the battle, crumbling to dust once its purpose was fulfilled. Though simple in form, the bone carried a purity of faith and light potent enough to challenge the darkness itself.
In life, Markovia had been a devoted Cleric of the Morninglord, joining the faith soon after her eighteenth year. Her charisma and unwavering conviction made her a figure of moral authority across the Zarovich Valley, and she gained renown for driving out evil wherever it took root. When Strahd von Zarovich succumbed to vampirism, Markovia saw his transformation as the final corruption of the warlord and resolved to end his reign of terror. Her defiance drew the attention of Strahd’s servants, who descended upon the Abbey of Brilliant Worship, but were utterly destroyed by her power and faith.
With victory emboldening her, Markovia led a crusade upon Castle Ravenloft itself. Her followers clashed with Strahd’s minions from the crypts to the towers, and though she struck deeply at the vampire lord, she never returned. Legends hold that Strahd was left wounded and limping from that battle and that he entombed Markovia’s remains within his castle. The holiness of her spirit seeped into her bones, and Consecrated her thighbone into a weapon of divine vengeance.
