Alizandra Markovia

This character is dead.
Saint

Alizandra Markovia was born an Angelborn to Human parents in the Village of Barovia, and as a child, it became immediately clear that she had a special connection with the Morninglord. She was quickly anointed as a steward of her faith, and spent most of her childhood at the Church of Barovia, even as conflict brewed around the village. After undergoing extensive training and becoming a powerful cleric at only nineteen years old, she traveled to the western Zarovich Valley, intending to spread the worship of the Morninglord. There, she founded a hospital in the low Balinok Mountains mountains where many forest-folk lived, and delivered over a hundred children safely, which was a miracle at the time.

Word began to grow around her great deeds, and she founded the Abbey of Brilliant Worship as a site to further assist the forest-folk in the mountains. She began to spread her gospel to those who previously prayed to the Ladies Three, teaching them that they were not gods, merely powerful Archfey with a deep connection to the land. Even when only partially-constructed, the Abbey was a sanctuary against the mountain winters, and many former "savages" began to settle in the area.

The community grew in size to the point where it became vulnerable to attacks by the many Barbarian forest-folk of the region. Additionally, the warlord Strahd von Zarovich was taking more territory in his family's name, which threatened the sanctity of the Abbey. To protect her growing flock, Alizandra ordered that defensive walls be built around the community below. Now a small fort underneath the abbey, the village gained the name Zachodgrad, or "Westfort", and became a bastion against the forces of the night.

During this period, an older Alizandra became a mentor to two proteges, Tasha Petrovna and Sergei von Zarovich. Tasha became a skilled healer, following Alizandra's footsteps, as Sergei became a paladin, leading the defense of Zachodgrad. Alizandra was especially impressed with Sergei's valor, granting him her Bright Blade as a tool to aid him against darkness. Sergei left the fort to marry another young worshipper, Tatyana Federovna, at his familial Castle Ravenloft; however, during the ceremony, he was killed by his brother Strahd in the Wedding That Never Was.

When Alizandra heard of this betrayal, as well as the circumstances of the Dark Power that had caused it, she knew she had little time to grieve. The new land of "Barovia" was a hostile place, with swirling mists that prevented anyone from leaving the valley. Wolves and Swarm of Bats zealots north of her abbey now worshipped a being called "Mother Night", the regional name for Telyth, and were lead by a foreigner named Jaghr of the Longtooth. The werewolves attacked Zachodgrad relentlessly as Barovia's woods became increasingly dangerous, and eventually, they breached the fort and attacked the townsfolk.

In an epic battle, Alizandra defeated the Wolf-Father at the Pool of Zachodgrad; with her final smite, it was said that the sun did not set for an entire week, even as the rest of the valley remained dark and covered in mists. The waters of the pool became Consecratewith the Morninglord's divinity, and Alizandra was given the title of "Saint". After the battle, she cured the willing werewolves of their Lycanthropy including their subchief Ladislau Krezkov at the foot of the pool. For this deed, a statue was erected commemorating the moment, with Alizandra leaning to a weeping Ladislau and healing him.

Once Zachodgrad was re-fortified, she lead a small army to rout Castle Ravenloft and destroy Strahd; there, she found a much larger number of enemies waiting. During this Sunless March Of Saint Markovia, she beat back legions of foes as she stormed the castle gates, but her forces were routed as Undead reanimated on both sides of the bridge. Trapped between two forces, she was brought low by the ceaseless horde, she was eventually executed by Strahd's traitorous servant Rahadin. She was then locked in a tomb underneath the castle, but the divine blessing remained within her body and empowered even her bones, preventing Strahd from controlling her corpse.
