Born in Zachodgrad to a family of worshippers of the Morninglord, Tasha was introduced to the Abbey of Brilliant Worship at a young age. There, she gained incredible skills as a healer; though she lacked divine power, she studied herbs and traditional healing, quickly becoming the local authority on medicine and potion-making. She developed a kinship with Sergei von Zarovich as well as the Saint Alizandra Markovia, who took her on as a protege and gifted her a Ring of Regeneration. Saint Markovia showed Tasha how to heal others slowly by using the ring, and assisted with her gaining further knowledge of herbal cures.
Tasha mastered the art of counteracting poisons, and was sent by the Saint on missions across the Zarovich Valley, both to aid those who were ill as well as to research new cures. However, Tasha harbored a dark side, unbeknownst to any member of her church. On her travels, she had developed a variety of skills; the war-torn valley was dangerous, and she became adept at moving with stealth and speed to ensure her survival. More than once, she was forced to kill abrasive soldiers and savage Werewolf">Werewolf assassin, she made contacts with rich families across the valleys as a missionary, developing trust amongst the nobles houses; notably, she fostered friendships with the Archmage Orlev ben Khazan and noblewoman Elizabeth Durst in the Village of Barovia. While visiting Elizabeth, she met the warlord Strahd von Zarovich, who was interested in her vast knowledge of poisons, her skill in staying undetected, and in her relationships with his enemy houses.
Strahd paid Tasha vast sums of money to work for him as an assassin, taking down many of his political enemies in the dead of night while healing their kin as a woman of the cloth. She kept up this act for years, becoming the greatest hired killer in Barovia; meanwhile, she presented as a pious medicine-woman. This lie was not detected by her peer, until Saint Markovia was slain at Castle Ravenloft and Zachodgrad was sieged. Before the fort fell, Tasha fled to Vallaki with an absolute abundance of Strahd's wealth. Once established in Vallaki, she had a family, attempting to leave her old life behind her in a new world dominated by mists and darkness.
Strahd gave her the semi-ironic title as the "Healer of Kings", and while his contracts ceased, Tasha continued to work for other noble houses in Vallaki as an assassin. Though she was not of a noble house, she had earned more than to match any of the old money in Vallaki. However, despite her wealth and knowledge, she grew sick, and no medicinal concoction could cure her. Frustrated at her powerlessness against her illness as well as the uselessness of her magic ring, Tasha returned to the graveyard of the empty Abbey of Saint Markovia and dug a symbolic grave for. She tossed her ring of regeneration inside and re-dug the grave, returning to Vallaki to die with her family. Strahd collected her personal items and bones, and placed them in a crypt below Castle Ravenloft.
Death did not come for Tasha. She found herself trapped in Barovia as a Ghost, and even entering her crypt did not absolve her. Her lifetime of duplicitousness left her imbalanced; the Morninglord had judged her, and he had rejected her. In death, she was given further skills beyond what she had in life: she intrinsically knew the distance and direction of everyone in the valley if she concentrated, but had no need to use these abilities, as she could not kill Strahd himself. She spent the rest of her eternity haunting a beautiful full-length mirror with a gilded frame, purchased when she "settled down" in Vallaki, but unable to hear through the mirror. She stayed in the mirror, unable to be seen by the generations of her offspring who had no idea where their wealth had come from.
