Lydia Petrovna

Baroness

The beautiful daughter of a rich family that had wealth since the days of Tasha Petrovna, Lydia was not of noble birth, but was wedded to Vargas Vallakovich at 22 years of age. She became the Baroness of Vallaki, moving into the Vallaki Burgomaster's Mansion and greatly increasing the ruling family's wealth. During her tenure as Baroness, she more than earned her reputation as a smiling yes-woman who bent to the Baron's will, very rarely speaking in public without her husband's presence.

Lydia's life was also dominated by two other temperamental men. She was distant as a mother to the Baronet Viktor Vallakovich, for as he grew, she found his madness to be even worse than his father's. As a result, she mostly tried to keep out of her son's way, fearing his sociopathic capabilities. She also, in a way, raised Izek Strazni, who Vargas had adopted as a boy and groomed for the role of guard captain. Izek was quiet but even more dangerous than the two men she loved most, so despite his room in her home, Lydia avoided him.

Much of Lydia's emotional well-being was tied to her husband 's fits of insanity, and she found it best to speak as little as possible. She placated him when asked and busied herself by entertaining noblewomen of other houses. During these parties, she ended up being a key link for Fiona Wachter to speak with Vargas. This resulted in the Wachter family gaining prominence to becoming the second-biggest in Vallaki, and the catalyst of the attempted marriage of her son Viktor and Stella Wachter.

When this failed, and Viktor broke Stella's mind, Lydia grew even more reclusive and anxious; it was no longer possible to please everyone. Her life, and Vallakian hierarchy, was a powder keg.
