HotSC Session 70

We return to when we left off last time, when the Agate Seekers are about to interrogate the three survivors of this party of bloodletters. After tying all of them up, the party starts questioning the first prisoner; the man who spent most of the fight fleeing. Introducing himself as Quinn Gilmour. Dareth Lion'el Griffmane and Volk Lesnoy were intimidating enough so that he didn't dare to lie; unfortunately, he was mercenary for hire, hired by Caim Steelhand directly, and didn't have much knowledge. However, he was able to confirm that Caim Steelhand sent the group, and that one of the other surviving prisoners, Jason, was also contracted, as he was a member of some thieves' guild, while another, Cole, was a true member of the Bloodletters and a member of their cult of Bane. Dareth ultimately decided to let Quinn go, and Volk promised him he'd sponsor him, so that he could get a place at the Liwilai Adventurer's Guild.

Next, they questioned the man called Jason. Dareth noticed the emblem on his clothes, identifying him as a member of the Phantom Tigers, a Thieves' Guild from Emilesburgh in Galon, led by a man called Percival Pates. They frequently work with the bloodletters, contracting out their members in exchange for money. Upon being threatened, Jason gave up the location of their hideout in an abandoned Warehouse in Emilesburgh's port, as well as their password: "The Tiger's Eyes Gleam". Jason meanwhile has been on multiple jobs already, including, but not limited to, acquiring further funds for the Bloodletters, but also helping with intimidating the Viscount of Ridgestown, Viscount Callum Silverhall. This one apparently is covertly working with the Bloodletters, to cover up the fact that the silver mines that have long financed his family and hometown have run dry. After giving some more information on Caim Steelhand, that his main hideout was near Ridgestown, and that there may be other hideouts near Greencaw and Heartswater, Dareth decided to let him go. In turn, Jason promised he'd talk to Percival Pates to stop working with the Bloodletters.

Last, Cole. While he did turn out to be a true believer into the Bloodletters' cause and god, Bane, he nonetheless was intimidated by Dareth and Volk enough to spill the beans; helped by a Zone of Truth by Samuel O'Lenaghan. He told them about members of the higher-ups of their organization, Caim Steelhand and Andreas Steelhand, as well as Magnus Steelhand. Additionally, he confirmed that the intention behind their attack on Skyhold was revenge for the lands lost to Clan Steelhand in the olden times, by Karl Griffmane. Additionally, there were many hide outs between Ridgestown, Greencaw and Emilesbourgh, but none in Heartswater. Noticing Dareth's anger rising, and his threats of Cole being judged by Tyr, Cole committed suicide by swallowing a poison pill hidden in his teeth; relieving Dareth, as he didn't need to kill him himself.

The journey continued and, in the night, Volk was contacted by Norbert Staudinger of the Jailers of the End; thanking the party for dealing with this squad of Bloodletters, and that he now realized why his higher ups kept the party alive, as they had been a thorn in their side since they stole an important artifact from them. As such, the party would be left alone for the time being. The two had a talk, and Norbert, who said that he was merely an enforcer of his organization, mentioned that the Illiadian artifacts the party and Limni Diluvi had been collecting are a key part of preventing the End of Everything. And as such, even though Limni means well, the party should think twice before taking any more jobs from him, lest they may gain the ire of his higher ups after all. Volk would also get to keep his Forest Garnet, as its current properties make it useless. Volk, concerned, had a talk with Mikhail upon waking him up, and they decided that from now on, the party would need to be careful whenever there was a possibility that they'd be scryed upon. Maybe with some See-Invisibility-Spells.

Over the next few days, the party first arrived in Cainschurch and spent the night there; with Dareth hearing his sister's voice about how Clayton Griffmane arrived and is alive, but looking horrible. Dareth, content that his plan worked, decided to talk with them once they arrived in Dulenn, to find a solution; perhaps first taking his siblings to the headquarters of the Adventurer's Guild in Argentis, and then towards the Lordston to talk to the Queen of the Royal Union.

Three days later, the party arrived in Dulenn, receiving their rewards from Ylos Asol, as well as the three magic items that the party could freely choose from his inventory; a Carrion War Pick, a Potion of Cloud Giant Strength as well as a Stormstrike Dart. The party then said goodbye to Ylos and Samuel, as Samuel escorted Ylos to the nearest Teleportation Service Station.

The party then made their way to the monastery where Clara was staying. After talking with one of the nuns there, who complained about Clayton's drinking problem, the party made their way to Clara's room. Dareth, initially nervous about entering, was pushed in by Volk. Clayton and Clara were sitting on the bed, having a conversation. But upon seeing Dareth, after he took off his helmet, the two brothers hugged and reconnected. However, a terrible revelation was had; as Clayton revealed that, on that fateful night where Skyhold Keep was attacked, he initially took the family sword, Skytalon, to fight back... only to be intimidated by the size of the attacking army, and fleeing like a coward, violating the creed of the Griffmane Family in the process. And since then, Skytalon has rejected him as a wielder.
