Port Llast is a small town on the Sword Coast North situated along the High Road approximately 50 miles north of Neverwinter. Port Llast is built around an excellent natural harbor, which made it an important trade port in northwest Faerûn. Throughout history Luskan and Neverwinter competed for influence over Port Llast, with Luskan favoring aggressive control through force of arms and Neverwinter countering with trade, diplomacy, and appeal to shared cultural norms. The city eventually allied with Neverwinter and became a member of the Lords' Alliance.
Port Llast was hit particularly hard by the events of The Spellplague when a small continent from the planet of Abeir translocated to The Sea of Swords and severely changed tide patterns, filling the harbor with silt and making it all but useless. Much of the populace fled economic ruin and those that stayed were constantly harassed by sea creatures that increasingly attacked after The Spellplague.
