Little Prince of Quyan
Shouwei Jin-li, also known as Shouwei Shun, is the surviving son of Shouwèi Yingjie and Shouwei Fanrong. He is a proficient bladesinger and the heir to the Shikara's throne. Though young, he is knowledgeable in shikar work, needing more emotional guidance than physical training.
Jin-li's upbringing has raised him to be a dedicated young man floundering as he comes into the real world. His compassion is a double-edged sword, and he frequently covers for his sensitive disposition with harsh words and aloof projection. With time, Jin-li has grown more comfortable with vulnerability.
Jin-li bears a scar from childhood: a burn over his left eye that renders it blind. He has learned to fight covering his left side as a result. Though he does not remember this injury, Jin-li seems to have an instinctive fear of fire.
Abilities
- Bladesong: Jin-li is an orthodox Bladesinger. His bladesong manifests as motes of sunlight in an aura.
- Guardian Arts: Jin-li's unique abilities as a Shouwei are forged around protection. He has shown the ability to form temporary shields, though the toll is strong due to incomplete training.
Within the Campaign
Liutubang first found Jin-li when he started following them to steal their supplies. After catching him, they let him travel with them for a short while, though he snuck away once they intended to return him to the fishing village he'd claimed to be from.
Jin-li went unseen for a long while after. Foes learned he had been in Límíng City at one point, but didn't know where he had gone. It wasn't until the party faced The Machinist for the second time that they encountered Jin-li again. Here, he revealed his bragging had been no bluff: he was a bladesinger, and a bladesinger capable of casting up to third level spells.
Following this fight, Jin-li reluctantly agreed to stay with the party, enduring the Jihui Sect with clear revulsion. Once in Límíng, the party initially intended to find another place for him to stay, but thus far have not made moves to do so.
Since taking up residence in Liutubang's apartment, Jin-li has warmed to them. Though still prone to insults and arguments, actions such as picking up dinner for them after their mission in Death's Door indicates a level of care he's unwilling to display.
Living in the city also led to a degree of disenchantment in Jin-li, seeing the hardships in the Drains and unable to comprehend the lack of aid. Do-Yun and Tamara did not sugarcoat the situation, but encouraged him to still try to make a difference.
Jin-li traveled with the party to Vung Ria, intending to celebrate The Ghost Festival there. When Do-Yun was endangered, Jin-li immediately insisted on coming with the party to help. They agreed.
He would be involved in the fight that followed, though neither Kichiro nor Seung seemed willing to hurt him. Under Vic's instruction, he at one point tried to pull Do-Yun out of a wall of fire. He was unable to endure the heat of the flames, flinching back and then freezing. He watched when Do-Yun was taken into the Spirit realm, and was left with Tíchan while the party pursued. Jin-li also assisted the party during the Ringmaster's attack by helping conjure phantasmal steeds and providing supporting fire from the backline.
After this event, Jin-li came clean about his true identity as Shouwei Shun. He requested that the party still call him Jin-li, even in private.
History
Jin-li's parents died when he was two years old, felled by the Elemental Titan, Isatum. He grew up raised by his uncles, Shikara Shouwèi Zian and Shouwèi Jin. From his father, Shouwei Yingjie, Jin-li inherited a spellbook. From his mother, Shouwei Fanrong, Jin-li inherited a sword.
Jin-li was trained in bladesinging by Shouwei Zian, though he was available infrequently due to his responsibilities. However, for all of his efforts and learned proficiency, Jin-li was forbidden from joining the Clan in true shikar work. Jin-li continued to beg to be allowed to practice and was given no ground. At the age of fourteen, he used what Yu Huang had taught him about stealth to escape his childhood home and evade capture. He stole a warding amulet to prevent others from locating or contacting him and set out as a rogue shikarist.
Jin-li spend approximately one year handling independent jobs and relying on the compensation of those he helped.
