Relationships
Loveless.
Huang has some previous associations with Loveless.
The two of them are familiar enough that she calls them by their first
name alone, while Huang calls her by her given name: Xiulan. They have
demonstrated a strong sense of loyalty to her, repeatedly obscuring her
position from their family, and going as far as to break her out of
Serpent Gardens themself. While in the Abyssal Fissure, Huang told
Loveless that she could stop her act, indicating they believed any care
she demonstrated towards them was nothing more than a facade.
Since then, Huang has become increasingly distant. During Do-Yun's birthday celebration, they misinterpreted her attempts to talk to them. Additional convolution was introduced when Liutubang tended to them after they reached out in a panic. While struggling to speak, they allowed Loveless to make physical contact, and even maintained it of their own accord for a time.
Foes.
Huang
and Foes encountered early into Huang's acting career. The meeting
ended in a scrap, with Huang swinging at Foes and Foes carrying the
grudge years into the future. Despite a mutual dislike, they appear to
have come to more civil terms with one another while in the Fissure.
Over time, Huang appears to have gained a fondness for Foes. They tease him and have claimed that he likes or cares about them, and though they treat it with exasperation, they are willing to converse with him.
Tamara.
Huang
and Tamara have become closer friends with time. Their relationship has a strange foundation: Huang delivered an apology to her
after shooting her in Vung Ria, citing that if she had siblings, she
would understand. She did indeed understand, assuring them of no hard feelings. This
message was delivered through Niraj Ashtikar,
to Huang's dismay. Following the Fissure incident, Huang made good on
an offer to take her out to a shooting range, and seemed happy to have
similar outings in the future.
They have maintained regular outings since. Tamara frequently asks after their wellbeing, while Huang sympathizes with her own struggles. When panicked, Huang sent a dragonfly to Tamara asking for help.
Do-Yun
Huang appears to be somewhat protective of Do-Yun, as the youngest of the party. However, they do treat him as a friend, attending his birthday party with gifts of cooking ingredients, first aid manuals, and expensive wine. They are willing to enable him.
Vic
Huang appears fond of Vic. They are most casual with him of all members of the party. Despite seeing his form of dread, Huang has not shied away from Vic, and has readily agreed to introducing him to Quyan's stronger and more illicit forms of imbibing.
Niraj Ashtikar.
Neither
Huang nor Niraj appear thrilled by their match as spouses. Despite this,
there has been enough communication between them that Huang agreed to
try something that Niraj had suggested, though the specifics are
unknown.
Despite their lack of compatibility, Huang and Niraj have been working together. They infiltrated Death's Door with Niraj's guidance, and have his assistance in determining who is spying on them. Niraj is aware of Huang's maintained relationship with Liutubang. He seems to be willing to support Huang's interests.
Atsushi.
Huang adores their younger sibling
seemingly unconditionally. They regularly praise Atsushi's abilities and
skills, displaying blatant pride. They are also fiercely protective of
Atsushi: against their typically nonviolent nature, Huang has reacted with extreme violence in their sibling's defense.
They risk their own safety as well, throwing themself into the middle of
a violent crowd in order to get to them faster and pull them to safety.
Despite Huang's affection, the relationship appears strained at best. Atsushi's opinion of Huang is unclear, but they frequently display frustration with Huang. They retrieved Huang from a party in one incident, to Huang's embarrassment, and berated Huang fiercely after their failure in Death's Door.
Yu Ao-Mei
Huang has a tense relationship with their mother. Yu Ao-Mei is physically and verbally abusive towards Huang. She berates them in a manner similar to Atsushi, and struck them when she learned that they warned Loveless that she was being tracked down. Huang solely refers to her as 'Madame Yu.'
Yu Akiko
Huang's late mother is a source of both grief and adoration. Their own passion for acting comes from Akiko, who had been a renowned actress largely credited for the demand for Lightweaving.
