Tatsujiro Kazuo

This character is dead.
Dragon of the East
NPC

Tatsujiro Kazuo, known as the Dragon of the East, was among the most renowned samurai swordsmen of the Y’azi Empire and a fabled member of the Order of the Jade Dragon. Equal parts tempest and tactician, his name inspired awe among allies and adversaries alike. Though raised in the highest warrior tradition of the samurai, his path was marked by personal tragedy, unyielding rebellion against Y'azi Dragonborn social rigidity, and a destiny intertwined with divine prophecy. He fell with honor in the Battle of the Black Sun, remembered for charging Malekith himself and drawing the first blood from the false Avatar of the Sun.

Origins & History

Tatsujiro's story began in grief. As a child, he witnessed the horrific demise of his family—his father, entranced by a nightmare wrought by an Oni demon, slaughtered his kin before Tatsujiro’s eyes. The young dragonborn was only spared when Kanzo Tatsugami, Karo of the Order of the Jade Dragon, arrived to slay the possessed and restore order. Moved by the boy’s fury and strength of will, Kanzo adopted him and raised him as both ward and disciple.

Despite his noble upbringing within the Palace of the Celestial Dragon, Tatsujiro grew to despise the stifling formalism of Y’azi society. His fiery temper and disregard for protocol drew the ire of many fellow Jade Samurai, including Tatsu Yomokai whom he once came to blows with over a matter of honor and impulsiveness. Though Tatsu was briefly disavowed from the Order, his loyalty to Emperor Ryujin Hattori and his proven valor eventually restored his place among their ranks (see: Destiny of the Dragonborn).

Life

Tatsujiro’s legacy was forged through battle and driven by divine prophecy. Following his divine recognition as the Champion of Fujin during the duel against Kairus the Brass in the palace's Kenjutsu Dojo, he received the sacred blade Kazehikari (Wind's Radiance) and was tasked with accompanying The Sunsations to Norska. There, the Sunsations struck down Varaghast Ghuul and sealed a Khaos, solidifying Tatsujiro’s reputation as a living embodiment of the Dragonborn prophecy.

Afterward, he returned to the Temple of Fujin and briefly taught the next generation of Unknown, honoring the dying wish of his former Master Shen Agatsu. But his final call came when Talyen summoned the Sunsations for one last battle—the fight against Malekith within the Tomb of the Twin-Spirit.

During the Battle of the Black Sun, Tatsujiro fought with unmatched fury, helping his comrades in slaying multiple Fallen Mythar Angels. When two of his Jade Dragonborn comrades were incinerated by Malekith, Tatsujiro charged the false Avatar directly. Against all odds, his blade cleaved through Malekith’s radiant robes, drawing first blood. But the triumph was brief—Malekith’s radiant aura surged, and Tatsujiro’s body was consumed in scorching sunfire, leaving only his shattered blade behind.

Legacy

Though his body was lost to incandescence, the legacy of Tatsujiro Kazuo endures throughout the Y’azi Peninsula. Statues now stand in both the Kenjutsu Dojo and the Temple of Fujin, where he is venerated not only as a warrior, but as a symbol of righteous defiance and unshaken loyalty. No longer defined solely by prophecy, his story has passed into legend—a tale of pain, rebellion, redemption, and sacrifice.

To his people, he remains not just as The Dragon of the East, but a blade of wind that cut through the strands of fate itself.

Destiny of the Dragonborn

Palace of the Celestial Dragon

Destiny of the Dragonborn refers to the legendary saga of Tatsujiro Kazuo, the Dragon of the East, whose fate intertwined with divine prophecy and shaped the course of history. His destiny was sealed following a fateful duel against Kairus the Brass within the sacred Kenjutsu Dojo at the Palace of the Celestial Dragon.

Upon conclusion of their fierce battle, Kanzo Tatsugami, elder samurai of the Order of the Jade Dragon, revealed that Tatsujiro and Kairus had proven themselves as the chosen champions of the twin draconic gods: Fujin, deity of winds and guardian of the East, and Raijin, deity of storms, protector of the West. In recognition, Kanzo bestowed upon Tatsujiro Kazuo the divine sword Kazehikari (Wind's Radiance), an artifact symbolic of his celestial mandate.

Shortly after embracing his divine heritage, Tatsujiro received a sacred mission directly from the Dragon Emperor himself, Ryujin Hattori. Tasked with journeying far beyond the Y'azi borders to the frigid realms of northern Norska, he joined an elite strike force—including the renowned adventurers known as Kairus the Brass and his sworn battle brother, Kairus the Brass. Their quest was perilous and of great consequence: to defeat the dark Warrior-King Varaghast Ghuul, confront the infamous champions of Khaos, Pali and Yavok Starpath, and seal the corrupted Khaos Rift threatening the Prime Plane.

Through valor and fierce determination, Tatsujiro distinguished himself in battle, fighting valiantly alongside Kairus and his companions. Together, they slew legions of daemonic horrors and ultimately felled Varaghast himself, sealing the rift and bringing momentary peace to the northern lands.

Returning home with honor, Tatsujiro’s legend grew, marking him forever as a champion of the Y’azi people and a living embodiment of the prophecy of the Dragonborn—one whose destiny continues to shape the future of the world (see: Destiny of the Dragonborn).

Chosen of the Wind

Temple of Fujin

Upon his return to the City of Hojo, following the slaying of Varaghast Ghuul and the closing of the Khaos Rift, Tatsujiro Kazuo was greeted not only with honor and reverence but also with the weight of a new destiny.

The Dragon Emperor, Ryujin Hattori, delivered grave news—Master Shen Agatsu, Elder of the Unknown, had fallen in battle against the Tribes of Khaos in the Unknown. His final wish had been clear: that Tatsujiro, his prized pupil, would succeed him in instructing the next generation of Wind Monks.

For a warrior who had spent his life as a swordsman and samurai, the path of a teacher and master was an unexpected one, yet Tatsujiro did not refuse. Honoring his fallen mentor’s will, he took up the mantle, ensuring that the art of the Wind Monks would not fade, and that the next generation of warriors would be ready for the battles yet to come.

Thus, the Dragon of the East, once a lone warrior bound by prophecy, became a guardian of wisdom and tradition, shaping the future as those before him had shaped his own.
