At the foot of Mount Baratok, nestled in the misty forests of the northern Svalich Woods, was a massive lake named after the von Zarovich family. Estimated to be more than 80 miles long, Lake Zarovich was the largest lake in Barovia, being fed by several streams from the northern Balinok Mountains. The lake drained into the Luna River, but some theorized that lake truly bottomed out of the Plane of Shadow into the Lower Realms.
Despite its prodigious size, protection from wind in the mountain valley gave the lake's water an incredibly still and dark quality, often reflecting Barovia's black clouds like a monstrous mirror. The lake was mostly devoid of life, but occasionally, Humans from Vallaki were fish there. However, fishing at the lake could be dangerous, as larger threats such as Gigant Tayatshkala also lurked in its depths.
