Wachterhaus

In Curse Of Strahd, the sense of power created by the cult would be instrumental in changing the minds of the people to rally against Vallakovich rule, which Fiona believed she was destined to implement. She met with the Pack to organize a coup, not revealing to them that she wished to kill them as well, and ultimately lead to the Riots Of The Blazing Sun. After the riots, the Vallakovich family was killed, and rioters burned down the Vallaki Burgomaster's Mansion.

The Wachterhaus became the seat of power in Vallaki; despite its otherwise unremarkable size, it remained the finest home in Barovia not owned by Strahd von Zarovich.

Months after the riots, the Heralds of Dawn initiated a stealth coup in the town. Using Spells to make them invisible, they infiltrated the Wachterhaus and kidnapped both Fiona and Stella Wachter, while locking Karl Wachter and Nikolai Wachter II in a room alongside the family's personal guards. With evidence they gained from the raid, they  put Fiona on trial during the Silver Dawn Of Vallaki, and ousted her as Burgomaster.

Under a new town order, the Wachterhaus was converted into a makeshift education center called the Fayan Academy, so named after the adventurer Mormeros Fayan who had saved the Heralds from Strahd von Zarovich. The center took in all ages, and was a popular funneling point for Saint Andral's Orphanage. Due to a general lack of education in the town, however, not much occurred at the Academy until the Red Dusk Of Vallaki and the subsequent Slaying Of Strahd.
