Nikolai Wachter II

In Curse Of Strahd, when Nikolai had a memorable night with Shakti of the Wildhunt, eventually taking the young Wereborn's virginity outside of the tavern. She subsequently tried to avoid him, and he tried to make the feeling seem mutual, while asking all manner of secrets about her from her half-brother Ghalwin Forrester.

Unbeknownst to him, both The Pack and Fiona were plotting a revolt against the Vallakovich family, and he was caught unaware during the Riots Of The Blazing Sun; suddenly, his mother was the Baroness of Vallaki. Nikolai's life did not change much, as he was not truly privy to Fiona's plans or visions; however, the cultural change gave him more freedom in the town. The new baronet remained too timid to leave its protective walls, however, and with the Blue Water Inn deemed a place of bad fortune, began to simply purchase his wine and drink at home, growing more insular.

Months later, a group of adventurers snuck into town and performed a stealth coup. Using Spells to make them invisible, they infiltrated the Wachterhaus and kidnapped Fiona and Stella. Posing as ghosts, they terrified the guards and locked Nikolai II and Karl in the same room with their guards, threatening to kill them if they came out. Eventually, Izek Strazni returned, and forced them to watch the Silver Dawn Of Vallaki. The adventurers were dubbed hereos and called the Heralds of Dawn, and convinced the crowd to let the Wachters live, setting up Vallaki as a mercantile republic.

As a result of a speech of unity, the Wachters were banished but not executed, and Ghalwin used a favour he earned from The Abbot to cure Stella of her condition. The Heralds then took the family to their base at Argynostholt, alongside ten militiamen and wolf-hunters. There, Karl and Nikolai slowly changed, forced to work to maintain the fort. The brothers could no longer view their mother the same way, both in her dealings with Strahd von Zarovich as well as due to her horrifying desecration of their father's body.

Despite this, both were overjoyed that Stella had been returned to them, and took responsibility to fill the gaps their sister had missed over the years. He and his family remained in the fort until the Slaying Of Strahd.
