Having unleashed absolute chaos on the first floor, Rasmus posted up to the doorway to the Gemstone Wing and began to lockpick the main door, when he felt Mikahbu egging him on. Understanding that he had to put on a show for the Archfey, he attempted to charm the two men guarding the Murkmire Stone. Clarc Pendergilt-Vanth was completely convinced by Rasmus's lie of being a city inspector needing to escort the museum to a safer place, but Grendor Battleaxe was not convinced. He attacked Rasmus with a heaving swing, and Rasmus responded by melting half of the dwarf's face of with an Eldritch Blast. Rasmus yelled for Clarc to bring the Murkmire Stone downstairs, and the magically charmed young man did as he said. He picked up the stone, which caused the Arcane Locks to trigger, and Grendor struck Rasmus low with a final axeblow.
Meanwhile, Greta grabbed two small fossil bones and started smashing the glass containing the weapons, and eventually did so, collecting an Enhanced dagger and enhanced handaxe. She then headed to the other Gemstone Wing entrance and successfully picked the Arcane Lock, stealthily opening the door. She saw Grendor turn on Clarc, believing him to be working with the thieves, and watched as the terrified teenager spear the dwarf through his throat. Greta saw her opportunity when she noticed that Clarc was going into shock, and successfully convinced Clarc that he was on hallucinogenic mushrooms from his earlier encounter with Matthew. She went to stabilize Rasmus as Clarc fully freaked out, looking at his gauntlet hand and seeing the symbol of "Torm".
Downstairs, with guards scattering from the Allosaurus, Leila and Ellenor went through the Records Room, finding the full location of all the alarms that had been set up. Leila decided to go one room further and found a decrepit Living Doll, with the name "Marigold" stitched into her tattered dress. The terrifying doll stood in the corner of an office, protecting the curator Alda's desk. Despite Ellenor's protests, Leila set up a hunting trap at the door entrance and attempted to bait the doll into combat. Her plan worked, as Marigold was caught in the trap, but Leila underestimated the doll's sheer ferocity and was immediately torn apart by wicked claws. Ellenor hid behind the drawers of the Records Room, and when Marigold returned to the office, the half-elf pulled Leila away from the doorstep and shut the door.
Thinking quickly, she searched the drow's body from the previous room and found two Potions of Healing. She immediately used one to heal her elven friend, and they poked their heads to view the museum's entrance. They saw that the allosaurus had activated some traps; it was wearing a weighted net like a bride's veil and was actively in combat with two Animated Statues. Leila also clocked that two guards were standing enraptured at the opposite end of the entrance, waiting for this ferocious battle to conclude. To ensure they weren't seen, Leila created a magical fog cloud to obscure the stairway, and the pair bolted upstairs before the guards could notice them.
Ellenor successfully picked the Arcane Lock and made it into the Gemstone Wing, providing Rasmus with the Potion of Greater Healing. Seeing a catatonic Clarc half-covered with Greta's cloak as a blankie, Ellenor provided him with Leila's mushrooms, and unknowingly gave him an incredibly dangerous cocktail. The young guard immediately stopped breathing, but on a Nat 20 death save, sprang up with a completely new outlook on life. High on drugs and Torm, Clarc declared that he would become a champion of his gods' will, and Greta convinced him to call the other guards into the curator's room to meet Marigold. Rasmus backed Clarc up by masking his voice as Grendor's ordering a search of the office, and he successfully convinced the guards to conduct a raid of the first floor; he was the only survivor.
This bought the party time to place the Murkmire Stone in the Bag of Holding and ascend through the top floor to the skylight. The Murkmire Stone was now producing a faint glow, outlining a small creature inside, and was getting brighter by the minute. As they made their getaway from the rooftop, the bag pulsed with trans-dimensional energy, and everyone could feel their psyche being probed by an eldritch being. They resisted the attack and climbed down to their wagon, finding that Marx had stayed loyal, rebuffing the guards who had escaped from the museum. They took their wagon to Doctor Danell's Apartment , where once again a psychic wave blasted from the bag. Greta was unable to resist this curse, and her bones began to grow heavy as lead.
In the apartment, Meera and Cassee were waiting, as the Doctor put the finishing touches on the crystal case. After Greta ensure that the room was safe from invisible intruders with a Faerie Fire, the party heaved the stone into the case, and the glowing eldritch egg finally went inert. With the mission successful, the party told Meera of Clarc's heroics, and the handler assured them that the young guard would be given an interview to join the Golden Vault. She also informed them that Matthew the Ascended was compromised, and was no longer to be contacted as a Golden Vault operative. Before everyone left for the night, Ellenor made one final pass at the Doctor, and the two sealed the mission with a kiss.
The next day, as payment for their success, the party was each sent a magic item by animal messenger: Rasmus was provided the Eyes of Charming, Leila was given a pair of Boots of Elvenkind, Greta was gifted a halfling-sized set of Enhanced studded leather, and Ellenor was sent a Cloak of Elvenkind. They each looked over their new baubles with pride, but a truth quieted their celebrations; soon, there would be an even bigger job to do.
