Tsolenka Pass

Tsolenka Pass was a gravel road that hugged Mount Ghakis, climbing to great heights and beyond the mists of Barovia. The road started at the Raven River Crossroads and traveled around 110 miles to a gatehouse and guard tower, as well as a seventy-foot stone bridge that spanned the Luna River. The areas amidst the cliffs were mostly unpopulated, but some mountain Goats, Giant Goats, Wolves, and Dire Wolf packs lived high in the mountains. Wind and snow made the journey treacherous, so few beyond the hill-tribes and those visiting the Amber Temple made the trek.

The gatehouse, guard tower, and stone bridge were built by civilizations long ago, predating Strahd von Zarovich's rule of Barovia. Atop the guard tower were gold-plated statues of female Human knights adorned with lances, and gargoyle-like Demon statues adorned the top of the gatehouse. A mage had long ago enchanted the portcullis to manually control itself; when approached, the mechanism would move on its own. A similar enchantment caused a curtain of green fire to constantly defend the gate, its flames continually spewing beyond the portcullis.

As Barovia's magic grew twisted and more dark, it was said that Undead spirits haunted the grounds of the gatehouse, fending its towers from invaders.
