Camas Firewater was born in a small village on the outskirts of Cliffsunder, a quiet Human girl whose world was often confined by illness but brightened by a deep love of simple things. She adored the Long Bloom, especially the blooming camas flowers she was named for, and would spend long days dreaming of fields she was too weak to walk. Though she initially followed her peers in teasing her brother, Merc Firewater, for being Devilborn, she would eventually grow close with the boy.
On a day where Camas was bedridden, Merc revealed to her that he was a Sorcerer. He conjured an Illusion of a great purple flower in her sickroom to cheer her up. What was intended to be simple Spellcraft became something far greater, a surge of Wild Magic that filled the room with light and left Camas miraculously healed. For a brief time, the siblings were inseparable, running through the flower fields together as though nothing in the world could touch them. They became friends with a gang of local misfits, and with her health renewed, the two caused chaos around their village.
Late one evening, a fifteen-year-old Camas and her friends came up with an idea for a heist. Old Man Breagurd kept a strange little fish mounted in his dining room, said to bring him luck, and they meant to take it. After their parents were asleep, Merc and Camas slipped out, met the others, and crept aboard his ship. They found the fish above the table, small and brightly colored, and pulled it free. On their way out, a door slammed open and the group scattered, leaving Merc and Camas behind. With Breagurd rushing toward them, Merc panicked and reached for magic he had never used before.
He meant only to put the old man to sleep, but a sudden Wild Magic surge followed and seven bolts of force shot from Merc’s hand, killing him. While their friends had already began rowing away, Camas had seen everything, and ran from her brother. Their parents knew enough of his magic to understand what had happened, but could not excuse it. If the truth came out, the village would demand answers, and Merc would not be shown mercy; they decided he had to leave that night. Merc and his father packed a cart and set out for the city in the dark, bound for the Whiteharbour Academy.
In the aftermath, Camas became the line Merc could not cross back over. Terrified and heartbroken, she fled from him and refused to meet his eyes when he came to say goodbye. Her final words, spoken through tears, cut deeper than any punishment the village could have dealt: she told him to go to the Nine Hells where he "belonged". Not long after, her illness returned, and without her brother there to defy it, she succumbed to it quickly, before her parents had a chance to find what was wrong with her. She was buried behind the Firewater family home, her grave nestled in a field of camas.
