Dossier

Notoshima is a male human fighter of Kara-Tur descent and a skilled, driven member of Bromocorah Inc., his unique combat style, Avernus-forged resilience, and uncanny ability to sleep anywhere adding a distinctive edge to the guild’s ongoing conflicts. Standing at 5’9”, Notoshima has a lean, wiry frame honed by years of martial training, his sun-bronzed skin marked by scars, including a jagged burn on his left forearm from his time in Avernus. His jet-black hair is pulled into a tight topknot, a few loose strands framing his sharp, angular face, and his dark brown eyes flicker with vigilance and resolve, always alert for danger—except when he dozes off mid-situation.

Notoshima’s attire blends his Kara-Tur roots with battle-ready practicality. He wears a dark red kimono with shortened sleeves for mobility, layered with scorched, blackened leather armor. Indigo hakama trousers tuck into sturdy boots, their soles worn from relentless travel. A crimson obi sash secures his weapons: two katanas, one in each hand, their dragon-etched scabbards gleaming, and a naginata, which he wields in his mouth during combat, the pole weapon’s blade flashing with deadly precision—a testament to his unorthodox skill. A jade koi fish amulet, a family heirloom, hangs around his neck, a touchstone of luck he grips before battle, though he often falls asleep clutching it, even in the middle of a tense standoff.

Escape from Avernus

As a fighter, Notoshima is a storm of steel, dual-wielding katanas with lethal accuracy while using the naginata in his mouth to strike or parry, a technique that intimidates foes and awes allies. Remarkably, he can sleep anywhere and anytime, regardless of the chaos around him—a trait developed during his time in Avernus, where rest was a rare luxury amidst constant demon wars. Whether it’s during a stakeout, mid-conversation in the guildhall, or even leaning against a tree while Zhentarim agents close in, Notoshima can doze off in seconds, snoring softly with his naginata still clenched in his teeth, only to snap awake at the first sign of danger, blades drawn and ready. A month ago, during Elturel’s fall to Avernus, Notoshima and his companion Zafreya were captured by Zariel, a devil high command, and forced to fight in her wars against demons. The hellish battles hardened him, but when a portal to the Prime Material Plane opened, Notoshima and Zafreya attempted to escape together. The planar transfer was chaotic, separating them mid-journey—Notoshima landed back in Faerûn, while Zafreya’s whereabouts remain unknown, a loss that drives him to find her. Zariel, furious at his escape, hired the Zhentarim—an old enemy of Bromocorah Inc., with whom the guild has long been at odds—to hunt him down, intensifying their existing rivalry.

Seeking refuge and a means to search for Zafreya, Notoshima approached Bromocorah Inc., knowing their history with the Zhentarim might make them allies against a shared foe. To prove his worth, he took a bold risk: he infiltrated a Zhentarim safehouse and stole a valuable artifact—a blackened wand imbued with chaotic energy, a relic Zariel had given them to aid their pursuit. He presented the artifact to Demit, who, recognizing its power and Notoshima’s potential to strike at their longtime enemies, welcomed him into the guild, eager to leverage his skills in their ongoing feud with the Zhentarim.

Guild Roles

Within Bromocorah Inc., Notoshima’s combat prowess and personal mission make him a fierce ally in their conflict with the Zhentarim. Kilionzel, familiar with the Zhentarim’s treachery, pairs Notoshima with Grull on the frontlines, his skills a boon against their foes, though she remains vigilant for their retaliation. Demit, who accepted him, studies the gauntlet, often discussing Zhentarim tactics with Notoshima, whose insights from Avernus prove valuable. Airish connects with Notoshima over their shared defiance of tyrants, eager to strike at the Zhentarim together. Rimeus’s melodies soothe Notoshima, earning a curt nod. Tamago’s chaos unnerves him, but he shields the sorcerer in battle. Longtail calls him a “comrade of the hunted,” a title he accepts, understanding their shared defiance against the Zhentarim. Frostia polishes Notoshima’s weapons, earning a respectful bow. Ioanna offers tea for his stress, which he accepts with a murmur, unused to care. Yozora’s speed matches his precision in spars, making them a deadly duo. Sageko fights alongside him with respect, despite seeing him as “strong meat.”

Notoshima’s role in Bromocorah Inc. is as a frontline whirlwind, his katanas and naginata carving through foes, particularly the Zhentarim, with whom the guild has long clashed. His heist of their artifact strengthens Bromocorah’s position against them, while his personal quest to find Zafreya adds depth to his fierce loyalty, making him a key player in the guild’s ongoing struggle against their shadowy rivals.
