Lau Ruolan

The mother of the Lau children. Married to Lau Hao-yu.

The matriarch of the Lau family is shrewd, pragmatic, and opportunistic — all the traits of a business leader in Límíng City's cutthroat corporate world. Unfortunately, she was an acquisition by birth, the heiress to an old money legacy indebted to the Yu Clan for generations.

When Ruolan was young, the Lau family owned a string of theatres in Límíng, financing various productions with experimental illusory effects. She was arranged with Hao-yu as a child, and though the two were never attracted to each other, they became formidable partners in business and life as time went on.

After lightweaving rose to prominence, Ruolan shifted tracks to become one of the founding members of Lau Studios, a major reel production and distribution entity under the Yu Clan. She had seven children with Hao-yu, with ambitions to train them in production and management and, later on, marry them off to ease the Laus' debt.

Within the Campaign

Ruolan, like the rest of her family, was taken by demonic influence and cast into black pumice stone. Since then, a demon has been formed in her image: bearing a ring of swords, she lunges with brutal intent. Ruolan commands the rest of her family as a matriarch even in death.
