The birth son of Kolyan Indirovich and adoptive brother of Ireena Kolyana, Ismark was the next burgomaster of the Village of Barovia. Unlike many of the village's residents, Ismark was not a typically dour Barovian. He spent much of his life training with weapons in hope of confronting Strahd von Zarovich, and had an earnest energy atypical of his people. He had few peers or friends, given the dangers of the village, but was often found with Dalvan Olensky at the Blood of the Vine tavern. Establishing himself as a strong Fighter, he became head of the village's paltry militia, joined by the likes of Dalvan and Parriwimple.
Over the course of his life, Strahd tormented the village further, sending hordes of Wolves and Zombies to attack his home at the Barovia Burgomaster's Mansion. Unknown to Ismark, Strahd was obsessed with Ireena, believing him to be an incarnation of his obsession Tatyana Federovna, so tormented the residence that kept her from him. The repeated attacks eventually lead to his father having a heart attack, and Ireena being bitten twice; additionally Dalvan had not come back after attempting to deliver Kolyan Indirovich's Letter.
Ismark was beyond hope, and desperate for his sister to be provided some semblance of safety.
