The heiress to a noble Dark Dwarf clan of Thuldûmkarak, Nimira was raised in the harsh realities of the Middledark, constantly under siege from the myriad threats in the tunnels. Her clan possessed little wealth or weapons compared to others of her stature, however, and her parents died young from an illl-timed Dark Elf raid. Nimira was uncommonly strong as a warrior, and lead her people with even temperament, aided by advice from the forgemaster Snurrevin Silthammer who she trusted with her life.
As she aged, Nimira became distinct for shaving her natural beard to match her head, an imposing and strange choice for a woman of her status. She did so to prove that she was willing to choose unconventional solutions to problems that had affected her clan for generations. When Snurrevin approached her with the idea to lead a small team from the Underdark into Khundrukar to study the great works of Durgeddin Stonehammer, she accepted with little hesitation; perhaps a cadre of magic weapons was what her plan needed to beat back the dark.
The team's scout, Ghared Drenchglove, was eventually able to find a hidden entrance behind a waterfall under the Stone Tooth. It lead to the Black Lake, and their crew of six went up the chain ladder into the cursed halls of Khundrukar's foundry. Assaulted by undead, including the Ghostt of Arundil Dhaldohr, they abandoned the dwarf-halls but were disappointed to find the door to the Glitterhame was locked. Furthermore, everything of value in the areas accessible to them had been raided. The team turned to leave, but found that the young Black Dragon Zyrmintyl had re-entered the Black Lake; by chance, she had been out hunting when the duergar had first arrived.
Locked from going forward, fearing the northern halls, and also in danger of going back, the duergar were stuck. With a few month's worth of rations, they decided to attempt to leave by slaying the dragon: to do so, Snurrevin proposed they attempt to forge a weapon capable of destroying the beast. Though he and his two smiths worked relentlessly at the forge, but could not successfully produce a Dragon Slayer as they lacked the proper materials.
