Continuing their talk with Bisha, the group mentions Kith's supernatural singing ability, leaving out details about the Solari, Listeners, and Singers. Bisha hadn't heard of magic like Kith's before. The rift at Renatus Hall didn't sound like it was necromantic magic. Bisha suggested focusing on the gaoler Sendara detected before working on closing the rift. Amos added that they should also help Niman first. Sendara, Amos, Tor'in, Meriel, and Ren agreed.

The group left for the University Library to find Cai Cadwulf and talk about the restricted archives they explored earlier. Cadwulf was supposed to find out who had accessed the archives without permission, removing Marcus Renatus's research. He informed them that it was professor Lysandra Veltis's somatic password that was used. Professor Veltis retired, and passed away one year ago. She was the mentor to professor Cassus Optino. Tor'in recognized the name from the bank's paperwork for Hakur's house.

Making their way to the history building, Tor'in scouted around the place looking for anything out of the ordinary. They found Professor Optino in his office on the third floor. Optino quickly grew more nervous the more Amos talks to him. Eventually, he told them what happened. He did help Hakur, using the somatic password of his old mentor Professor Veltis. Hakur thought that the Marcus Renatus's notes were important, but couldn't access them because of his reputation with the Imperial Historians' Society. Hakur was acting strange when Cassus last saw him, but wouldn't say what was going on. He talked about seeing strange colors, shadows moving on their own. Nissra Hadenog was supposed to go with Hakur, but Cassus hasn't seen her. Amos told Cassus that if sees anything, or needs protection, to contact him. Before they leave, Amos gets Nissra's last known address from Cassus.

Nissra's place was a one room apartment in the Ivy Corner neighborhood, above the pawnshop called The Worn & Worthy. The shopkeeper's name was Mrs. Kreebs. She sold a large, palm-sized coin of Lakasis to Amos, which he called a lucky coin and gave to Tor'in. Amos also offered to go upstairs and check on a tenant that hadn't paid rent for the last two months, although Mrs. Kreebs said she still heard sounds of people coming and going. The apartment was small, modest, and fairly cramped. Clothes were strewn on the bed, and books were scattered on the floor. Meriel and Tor'in noticed that the window showed signs of force entry from the outside, and Meriel's keen eye even noticed marks of a grappling hook above the window. Tor'in noticed that there weren't many clothes left in the apartment.

Searching through Nissra's things, the party found a simple locket with geometric symbols on one side and orcish writing on the other. Ren translated it, and it read, "Strength in truth, courage in knowledge." There was also a small card, which had a drawing of a key on one side, and a drawing of a gull on the other. Sendara commented that she had a card just like it, that she got from Captain Hollow.
