The secondborn son of Wrys Helefir, Caelas was a scion of the Helefir family and the incumbent Port-Lord of Cliffsunder. He developed a reputation for being both cunning and childish, thought to be constantly coddled by his mother, Oona von Yonwood. He grew up at extreme odds with his bastard half-brother Ulre Helefir, who was ineligible for the position as the child of an outsider. Caelas was also noted to hate his father's Vulture Warwick Helefir, resenting that his family name had been given to a Beast.
He was unafraid to hide his appetite for power, and did not respect anyone belonging to a lower station than himself. Beyond personal pride, however, Caelas still believed that the Helefir name was the most important part of his identity, and believed that Ulre's criminal activities and poor reputation hurt his family. He eventually devoted significant time and resources to catch his brother, especially after his mother became a Torchbearer in the Council of Commonlight and his father withdrew from public life.
In this pursuit, Caelas purchased back-alley buildings in both lower Cliffsunder as well as around the Cliffsunder City Square, acting as bases where he could consolidate with the city's criminal underworld. He was not afraid to do anything to further his pursuit of Ulre, and was more than willing to torture people himself to get information.
