Born out of wedlock to an Elven wanderer from Ardhon Miniel, Ulrë was the bastard Crossborn child of the Helefir family of Cliffsunder. The son of Wrys Helefir and half-brother of Caelas Helefir, Ulrë's status as a half-noble haunted his entire life; due to not being of true Cliffsunder lineage, he was not considered eligible to become the next Port-Lord. This technicality overrode his status as firstborn, and beyond the niche law, his elven heritage did not help any other rightful claim.
The crossborn grew up in Palace Helefir but was hated by his family; his younger brother Caelas belittled him, his stepmother Oona von Yonwood detested him, and his father seemingly preferred the company of his Vulture Warwick. Never fully fitting in city society, Ulrë rejected his family's wealth and went off to live the life of an Adventurer, becoming a Spellcaster and developing skills as a Rogue.
Along Ulrë's journey, he became a contact of the mysterious cult known as the Fold, and was inducted into its trials. He displayed natural talents and sufficiently impressed the higher-ups of the cult, and was fast-tracked to becoming a "V", a status ranking him as a high member. Along with this title, he was given a new name, "Vex", and access to a litany of arcana and information. Caelas learned of his brothers involvement and believed that Ulrë's status and actions brought shame to his family's name, and set up a network of spies and criminals to catch his half-brother. However, with his training and access to the Fold's scouting networks, Ulrë seemed to always stay one step ahead of Caelas.
With his political connections already established, Vex became the Fold's primary operative in the Cliffsunder region. He made contact with a variety of gangs in the city, such as the notorious Glitterati, and began manipulating them towards helping the Fold's mysterious greater goals. He utilized his presence in the city to assist in covering the Fold's routes around the Splitmaw Strait, with his primary partner Volition vastly increasing the amount of treasure flowing around the area and into the Bay of Broken Tides.
